2025 Men's Golf Mega thread
Congrats to the Apps on a strong 2nd place in a 17 team event. And big congrats to App Herman Huus for being the medalist (overall winner).

Dropped to 13th as of now. Nice course and some pretty good golf by Arky State and CCU.

Men finished at 14. Not under , 14th out of 14 teams. Caps off to the women who avoided the cellar by 1 position.

I hope we don't spend much on gold given the results. Not sure if there'd be much ROI even if we won a ton.

I don’t know why we field golf teams when there are other , seemingly better options.

Golf Teams are cheap (relatively). I always wondered why we bothered with it. You can't play up there for a huge part of the year so no seriously competitive golfer would come to App for golf. And yes, I'm still pissed they took men's soccer away.

I suppose to make the minimum number of sports required by the Conference to maintain membership. I’m not certain. We are not competitive.

Our competitiveness is hurt by lack of commitment to facilities and the fact the teams have to travel off the mountain to practice November- March. Rest assured, the athletes on both the men’s/women’s teams represent our university with outstanding character and academic standards.

Re: 2025 Men's Golf Mega thread
If we had the money to commit, we could be competitive. The Big10 teams make it work, but they put millions into facilities. We don’t have that and likely never will, so we can’t keep up with our southern foes.asumba95 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 6:19 amOur competitiveness is hurt by lack of commitment to facilities and the fact the teams have to travel off the mountain to practice November- March. The facilities some of those programs have are more than impressive.
Give 'em hell!

We do have , finally , a tennis facility and saw the benefits of that immediately. We could field a competitive men’s team I believe.

Re: 2025 Men's Golf Mega thread
Plausible. If someone or group is bankrolling the team I could see that as the determining factor. I may have shared the story of when we were offered ownership of a golf course at no cost, if we would maintain and operate it . The Chancellor at that time , passed on the deal although the analysis showed it could pay for itself and provide educational opportunities in several areas. Good decision or bad decision? I don’t know but it was an opportunity to give our teams a huge advantage.
