Former App State forward Zach Joens is having a fine senior season for Asheville.
ASU (2-5-1) is on the road to UNC-Asheville tonight. UNC-A is 2-7 on the season and should be a relatively easy mark. Right?
Wait, nooo! The Bulldogs defeated Longwood 3-2 at home on a golden goal by *gulp* former App State forward Zach Joens in the second overtime. This was the second goal of the match for the senior forward from Asheville. Joens also assisted on the Bulldogs’ other goal, scored by junior Zack Compton. For his efforts Joens was named the Big South Conference Attacking POW.
Asheville's win was over the same Longwood team that shut out the Apps just ten days ago. That should serve as a bit of a wake-up call for the good guys. It may not, however, be an issue since the Apps are 2-1-1 in their last four matches and clearly are getting more comfortable with Coach O'Keefe's system.
