This is a sport we should no longer be funding. We don't have the facilities, climate or intangibles it takes to be competitive. Nothing is going to change these circumstances. Not even DG.

Used to think that as well, but look at womens golf. if the W's can do it, why not the M's?CVAPP wrote:This is a sport we should no longer be funding. We don't have the facilities, climate or intangibles it takes to be competitive. Nothing is going to change these circumstances. Not even DG.

Thought it was strange they didn't announce a search for the head coaching position upon retirement of Dicus (sp?).

That is a good question if you consider App's WGolf team competitive.App91 wrote:Used to think that as well, but look at womens golf. if the W's can do it, why not the M's?CVAPP wrote:This is a sport we should no longer be funding. This source has them ranked 8th in the 10 team Sun Belt, and 173rd in Div 1.

This same source has App's MGolf ranked 12th in the 12 team Sun Belt, and 217th in Div 1.

Perhaps we should continue to fund MGolf for reasons other than winning or being competitive. I doubt it's a huge financial commitment and I have no doubt our student athletes give their all, benefit from the experience, and go on to be leaders in their communities.

Men's golf used to have one of the highest Yosef Club member percentages of former players when I was closer to the board.

As a former App golfer and assistant coach, I can attest to this. Many former players are members of YC and some have served on the board. Also,as others have mentioned, the Men's golf budget is small so cutting it would gain very little.Saint3333 wrote:Men's golf used to have one of the highest Yosef Club member percentages of former players when I was closer to the board.
