Re: New Softball Coach Needed
Methinks Moose and NCSB are sitting on the name of the new coach! The suspense is killin' me. There are probably a dozen or so folks who already know. Methinks the question might be whether the name gets leaked and appears in this thread before the presser.

The contract has been approved by the BOT. Funny how the quarterly BOT meetings were this Thursday and Friday.

Re: New Softball Coach Needed
It's really funny, people begged for a coach with D1 head coaching experience. We get one, from a power conference with a better record than we have had. Not to mention was a solid head coach at College of Charleston to include Socon coach of the year. Oh and was recruiting coordinator at NC State (ie knows how to recruit NC's deep talent pool). Does anyone else realize the shambles our softball program is in? This is a huge hire for us, who did you think was walking through the door, really?

GaTech tough place for softball. Don't let records fool you. Decent hire...not on my list but decent hire. A coach in this footprint with something to prove.

Given the status of our program, we weren't likely seen as a great stop for a coach. She, at least, brings some understanding and knowledge of the region.

Re: New Softball Coach Needed
Coach Hoerner had impressive records at Charleston and at two D-II programs--Barry U. (FL) and Valdosta State (GA). She comes to App with the endorsement of Bobby Cremins. They were colleagues for six years at Charleston. He helped in selling App to her.
She's a native of upstate NY and is a two-time all-conf. player and grad of Canisius (Buffalo, NY). She should be well-schooled in cold weather softball.
This young woman already has more than 500 career wins as a collegiate head coach. Not too shabby. I'm already in her corner.

This should be a good hire. Recruiting at GT is difficult, not that many athletes that can handle engineering classes.

With all due respect to everyone involved- we are talking softball. softball. If we become a conference power how much money does it bring in? I'm guessing not much. Just be a competitive program and have no problems

Re: New Softball Coach Needed
No not at all. We just need to keep things in perspective sometimes. The expectations by some are that we can reel in a top softball coach to put the program at a national level. While that would be awesome it's not realistic. I like the move with Kermit. Coastal Carolina proved that you can win it all in baseball at a mid tier level. My hope is that App kicks butt in all sports and ranks high nationally in academics as well. There are simply some factors that will make it tough for us to really compete in some sports.bcoach wrote:Do you feel the same about all the non revenue sports? Not sure of your point but no program of ours in the SBC was in such dire straits and frankly has rarely experienced as little success as softball.App91 wrote:Coach Kermit Smith says hello!hapapp wrote:Given the status of our program, we weren't likely seen as a great stop for a coach. Re: New Softball Coach Needed
Like I said before, I had hoped DG would lead this program, and these kids in a new direction. It was uncomfortable at times watching that press conference.
