The Belmont Bruins (Nashville, TN), new associate members of the SoCon (formerly members of the Horizon League) visit the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex to take on the Apps in a 1 PM kickoff this afternoon. The Bruins are 0-2 on the young season with their losses coming on their home pitch (0-2) to Lipscomb and (2-5) to Campbell on the road. The team was ranked sixth of seven teams in the SoCon Preseason poll.
Our young Apps, coming off of a 2-1 win over VMI on Friday evening, will be looking to extend their early season record to 4-0. After today's game, the Apps will not play again until next Saturday evening when they make the short trip to Johnson City, TN to take on the Bucs of ETSU.
As part of their outreach to the Watauga community, @AppStateMSoccer will host a free clinic for kids provided by players and the coaching staff immediately following the Belmont match!

Belmont is gifted at dangerous challenge take-downs. They've already had one player red-carded and will play the remainder of the contest one man down. They could have easily been assessed a couple of additional red cards. Rough, aggressive play but not skilled soccer play.

Bruins assessed another red card for "words with the referee" from a player who was already under warning. His team will play the entire second 45 *two* men down. This lack of soccer etiquette will not be tolerated in any D-I conference.

That's amazing. Soccer is a physical sport, for sure, but there are limits. It's sad the Belmont players haven't been coached properly. I hope we escape without injury.
If serving is beneath you, then leading is beyond you.
