MSOC: App State at Campbell (5 PM PreSeason Exhibition)

After taking a sharp shot to the jaw from the '19 Sun Belt MSOC Poll (5th place predicition in a six team league...see link below), our Apps bested a very good D-II Linclon Memorial squad last Friday evening by a 4-0 score. Now, it's time to move along to richer pastures with much tougher competition. The first such pitch will be at Campbell in a couple of hours from now (it's 2 PM as I slap this out).

Campbell, today's opponent, has been guided back to the top of the Big South Conference and into NCAA post-season play by sixth year coach Dustin Fonder. Fonder's 2018 Camels team did not allow a goal in three Big South tournament matches and claimed its first NCAA berth since 2007 when Campbell knocked off defending champ Presbyterian in overtime on the road. Along the way, the Camels drew a top-seeded and 13th-ranked High Point squad in the league semifinals and advanced to the championship match on penalties.
The 2018 Camels led the Big South in goals, assists, points and shutouts, while ranking second in goals-against average. Seven Camels were named to the Big South all-conference teams, while Gideon Betz earned league tournament MVP and CoSIDA Academic All-America first-team honors. JJ Donnelly was named all-region for the second-straight year. Betz returns-along with 15 members of last season's NCAA tourney team.
App returns 18 players from last season, but SBC Defensive POY and All-South keeper Jake Chasteen has graduated. No fewer than three touted freshman GK recruits and a redshirt freshman returnee look for their opportunity to step-up.
