COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Ava Dawson got into the scoring column once again, but it wasn't enough as App State women's soccer fell to Tennessee Tech, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Tech Soccer Field.
The Mountaineers faced a 1-0 deficit in the first half when Bailey Taylor scored one of her two goals in the first 15 minutes of the half.
Like Thursday at Charlotte, App came out attacking after tallying just one shot on goal in the first half. Appalachian got on the board to tie things up in the 53rd minute when for a third time in two contests, Kristin Brown launched a corner that connected with Dawson.
Dawson's career high of four goals have come in the last three matches, while Brown's four assists on the year are a personal best. Three of Dawson's goals this season have come off her head.
After a second Bailey goal gave the hosts a 2-1 lead with under 30 minutes left in the game, the tandem of Brown and Dawson had attempts to tie up the contest, but the TTU goalkeeper stopped both shots.
Kerry Eagleston made the start for the Black and Gold, playing all 90 minutes and registering seven saves.
Appalachian will now return home this Friday at 7 p.m. against FIU to begin a three-match homestand. The Mountaineers are 1-0-1 at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex this season.
