MSOC: Apps (4-1) at Elon (1-3-1) In Progress

Unread post by asu66 » Tue Sep 17, 2019 6:02 pm

The Matchup
• In a series dating back to 1997, Elon and Appalachian State are deadlocked at 7-7-4 in their 18 meetings all-time.
• The two programs were longtime conference opponents in the Southern Conference before both left the league after the 2013 season.
• Both teams played to a scoreless draw last season in Boone, N.C. It was the first meeting between the two teams since 2013.

The Apps are off to a hot start this season; Elon not so much. Ordinarily, one would expect a tough outing when stepping foot onto Phoenix home turf. That was true until earlier this season when Elon surrendered six (6) first-half goals to bitter CAA rival James Madison.

Elon goes up 1-nil on the deflection of a blocked penalty kick in the 18th minute. Jake Madden was robbed of a beautiful save by a defensive break-down.

Looks like a decent crowd on hand for a week night soccer game and I see some yellow as well.

3 shots, none on goal. I am not seeing a level of intensity by us on the pitch

I watched most of the match. First one I’ve seen this year. I am beyond disappointed.

1-nil loss to the team predicted to be a second-division (sixth place) finisher in the CAA. Still no offense by the Apps for about the zillionth consecutive season.
