Has construction begun on the new track off 105 yet?

I have not heard that it has. What I did hear was that App State was not hosting anything this spring and that, I thought, was mentioned back when the plans were announced.

As I've said before with less strong words, it is stupid to tear up the track with none already built to replace it. Might as well just drop Track and Field.

It does seem to be a rather odd sequence of events.

No need to drop a.sport that has been good at App. That seems a bit of a childish reaction. Most meets are not on Boone anyway.

I do wish the money was there to have the track built now but TPTB decided to tear it up and then ask for money after the fact it seems.

At the end if the day if the T&F athletes are not upset then I guess I can not be upset as well. If there are upset I have not heard that.

If I were on the T&F team, I'd be upset at losing the track without a replacement.

That being said, (for the younger track athletes) the promise of a brand new, purpose-built facility coming soon would take away the sting.

I suppose they are currently practicing on the indoor "track" that is the Holmes Center concourse? Or maybe at New Watauga HS?

I was being sarcastic. Practicing at a high school or practicing outdoor events (which not all can be done indoors) is asinine and shows a lack of concern for our once successful program. I'm an advocate of Track and Field as I once ran the 880.
I'm embarrassed and ashamed of our administration for neglecting T&F program.

Recruiting for T&F has to suck at this point.

Football is driving all of this of course and with the winning in football it is hard to say " hold on football fieldhouse until we lay down a track that brings in little to no revenue." Not that I don't agree with your feelings but looking at this from the perspective of donations and where they come for and for what reasons.

Hopefully when the track is done it will put us in the top of SB T&F.

From what I can tell, the athletic department is doing everything they can with a challenging funding situation. Football is what would cause the tide to rise...and you know what happens to all boats when the tide rises.
There is an open spot in the AAC coming next year and football might drive their decision if they decide to replace UConn. Don't know if that's driving any of our decisions but we need to put our best football foot forward to even get consideration. Getting into the AAC would be a massive boost in shared revenues. Would really help if Kerns could get B'ball turned around fast as well.

The end of the track had to go to build the fieldhouse. They could not coexist. In the end the final product will be worth the wait. Once we have the 105 complex finished it will draw the athletes we want and need at App. That program will thrive just like all the other successful sports here.

How would it go over to have a basketball team with no gym, a soccer team with no soccer field, or a baseball team with no baseball field?

There would be a lot of away games that year that is what would happen.

Baseball and basketball also charge admission so they do bring in some revenue. Wrestling charges admission to have money to spend. I wish every sport was equal but the reality is that it is not.

Without our football program this platform would not exist.

When is it going to be finished?

I’m pretty confident the AD has a long term vision for our entire athletic department. I would imagine he is sacrificing the short term pains for the long term overall growth.

It’s not that difficult to understand.

It's not difficult to understand that a new track should have been built before tearing up the present one. What high school trackster wants to sign with a school that has no track?

Thanks. So we should have a track by 2021?
