One of App's more successful head coaches and was the longest-tenured coach.

Curcio's overall record in men's and women's cross country meets was 510-59, including a 179-20 mark against Sun Belt teams.
Damn, that's impressive

On the surface, being basically an App State lifer, this looks like a straight money move at the back end of his career. Probably asked DG if he could play ball with whatever Sewanee was offering but they have some deep pockets over there in TN and a strong CC program really "fits" with their school culture so I imagine they threw the bank at him. Can't blame him for bankrolling and propping up some of his retirement years with a short trip west. Pretty campus/country also for a CC program...

Not the case. Curcio wanted to be a lifer. The explanation alumni have been told is the current director of track and field wants his own people, so Curcio was pushed out.

That is disappointing to hear, especially considering the success that he has had at App.

People in power don't like a "threat" to their power in a person so experienced and knowledgeable. It happens all the time. Our program isn't immune to egos. Hopefully he gets his money and can retire happy.

Unfortunately for Appalachian to have a person like Coach leave after a dominant CC program he has been a significant part of for decades. Wondering why he wasn’t the Director of the CC and Track & Field Programs.

Mike is a Mountaineer. He dominated as an athlete and Coach. Hopefully after time away he will return. Until we find a way to fund our athletic department, we will continue to loose good coaches. Wish I had answers.

Mike is definitely a Mountaineer. He was very close to being able to get a full retirement through the State, may have with sick time built in. He is also pushing 60 but hopefully is in good health. Receiving one retirement while getting a paycheck is not a bad gig, although he is not currently at App State.

That makes no sense whatsoever considering his spectacular success and ties to the school. What does "wants his own people" even mean in this context?
I'm not doubting you, just ranting.

Part of all this also is that I think Curcio felt a little slighted being pasted over when Weaver retired.
