WSOC to face tough Samford side

Unread post by asu66 » Sat Oct 12, 2013 1:45 pm

The Lady Mountaineer strikers (6-4-2, 3-0-2) remain unbeaten in Southern Conference play after Friday night's 5-0 thrashing of the UTC Lady Mocs. That unbeaten string will be on the line Sunday afternoon when Samford's Lady Dogs take their bows at Ted Mackorell Field. Samford, (9-3-1, 3-1-1 ) is having one its finest seasons ever--sporting wins over Tennessee, Auburn, Vanderbilt and Georgia State--to name a few. Their success on the field has the Lady Dogs ranked #10 in the SE Region. They are easily the best team the unranked Lady Apps will have faced at home.

Strong competition notwithstanding, Coach Sarah Strickland has the Lady Apps playing well on both sides of the pitch. The offensive attack, in particular, has shown great improvement. And underclassmen are leading the way. Sophomore Samantha Childress, Junior Julia Holz, true freshman Jane Cline along with Senior Sam Neill have all played key roles in recent wins.

Sunday's match could be v-e-r-y interesting.
Proud triple-degree App grad--Classes of '66, '70 and '81.
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!
