ASU (4-7-6, 1-4-1) enters the SoCon men's soccer tourney at Elon (13-4-1) tonite hoping to avoid a university athletics "O-fer-the weekend." The strikers are the last hope to avoid a weekend sweep--as VB lost a four set match to Samford; M & W basketball were blown out by NC State and Vandy respectively and football got the slow-but-lethal-sword from UGA.

The seventh-seeded Apps step on the Elon pitch tonite for the second time this season; having lost 1-0 to the Phoenix when they were the 16th ranked team in the nation early last month. This time, the second-seeded "firebirds" are ranked #20 in the nation, but make no mistake--they are still very, very good.

Something has to give tonite as the all-time series between the two programs is locked at 7-7-2.

At the half, the score is nil-nil; but Elon has dominated play. The Apps will have to step it up two or three notches in the final 45 to advance to the semis.

The VB team leads UTC 2-0. So, they might keep the weekend from being a total disaster.
