Field Hockey Facility

2-16 headed into the NoPac Tournament. From a schedule that is usually 18-20 games we've had double digit win seasons 4 times since 1985. The program only has 3 winning years since 1985, last one 2003. It isn't that the team is bad, they aren't remotely competitive. Why do we continue sinking more $'s into this sport?

I think Title IX is the answer to that

Title IX should have nothing to do with it. As long as App maintains a proper ratio of men's to women's sports they could drop the sport and replace it with another like Lacrosse, which IS played at high schools in the NC school system.

Hockey is played on ice. Period. I have no idea what that other thing is but drop it and replace it with anything

Your suggestion is fine - as long as - it is replaced by another women's sport --- those of us who have/had daughter/athletes don't want to see their opportunities go backward ---

Would like to see women's Lacrosse in place of FH. FH is typically a private school sport where Lacrosse is more prevelant in Public Schools and club teams. Would really like to see men's Lacrosse but I do not want to drop anything to add.

I was just kidding. But I have resented men's soccer ever since I discovered the ASU Soccer Alumni's website devoted to bashing our athletic department.

We have a top notch swimming facility with no program.

I swam my freshman year at a school currently in the Big XII. Our pool is far, far better than their's.

Any Title IX problems need to be answered with women's swimming, imo.

In many towns across NC. more kids are playing soccer than football.

Field hockey does have a history at App State as the first women's sport. I'm not saying that it should be maintained for that reason but it has had its place in the ASU athletic department for quite sometime. I get the argument about it being a private school sport in NC. In VA (Richmond, Tidewater, and NOVA) and states to the north it is a public school sport. Radford, however, just recently dropped their program. I guess UNC can get away with playing the sport because they have a nationally recognized program.

It is frustrating, as was previously pointed out, that the team has rarely been competitive in recent years. However, it would seem that it is here to stay based on the fact that the athletic department is building them their own facility.

Someone on here said our pool did not have a deep enough diving area for competition.

It is not an Olympic size pool nor is it deep enough to host collegiate diving events.
