Final 2013-2014 SoCon Cup Points
We all know the Cup status but here is the last SoCon Cup spreadsheet.
Wrestling is staying in the SoCon according to the Black and Gold newspaper I got in the mail yesterday. I will not bother posting nor updating as I have the last few years but I may keep this going on some basis and if anyone is interested I can keep those few in the loop. We will continue to earn Commish Cup points going forward for this one sport.
Hopefully I can do this for the Bubas Cup next year if the board is interested.

That would be appreciated, but I can't rationalize the SB not having an award for women as well as for men.

FWIW the SBC sponsors more women's sports than men, so in some way the women's side contributes more to the Bubas Cup results. I like the idea that the cup is awarded based on the best overall athletic program.NewApp wrote:That would be appreciated, but I can't rationalize the SB not having an award for women as well as for men.

I can. App's women's soccer team, or the softball team represents the entire school, not just the women at the school. Just as the football team doesn't just represent the men. For most of its history, the SoCon had two all-male institutions, and a combined cup would have made it damn near impossible for either to win it (not that they have a really good shot to win the men's side to begin with, but they do have a chance).NewApp wrote:That would be appreciated, but I can't rationalize the SB not having an award for women as well as for men.

That's the very rationalization that I disagree with.AppinVA wrote:I can. App's women's soccer team, or the softball team represents the entire school, not just the women at the school. I tend to agree. The reality is the women's sports are not covered as much by media, alumni, attendance. Two cups can be used to marginalize even more. If you want the Bubas Cup a school needs to be firing on all cylinders.hapapp wrote:FWIW the SBC sponsors more women's sports than men, so in some way the women's side contributes more to the Bubas Cup results. Why not both? Give a cup for women, one for men and an overall cup. Best of both worlds.hapapp wrote:FWIW the SBC sponsors more women's sports than men, so in some way the women's side contributes more to the Bubas Cup results. I think that just cheapens it. Kind of a "everyone gets a trophy" appearance.NewApp wrote:Why not both? Give a cup for women, one for men and an overall cup. Why? Every school in the Sun Belt is co-ed, and has been so since schools really started paying attention to womens sports in the early 1980s.NewApp wrote:That's the very rationalization that I disagree with.AppinVA wrote:I can.
