WSOC @ NC State Wed. 7 PM, Raleigh's Dail Field
The ASU women's soccer squad travels to NC State tomorrow evening for a 7 PM match with the Wolfpack. The ASU women are coming off an 8-7-4 record from 2013 and return most of their defense and firepower. The Apps' biggest loss from a year ago is probably Florida defender Amy Werdine. ASU will field a large freshman class; arguably led by forwards Jaela Graham from Huntersville, N.C. (Southlake Christian Academy) and Sarah Moon from Cornelius, N.C. (W.A. Hough).
NC State was 7-12-0 last season, but will field the #14 national recruiting class (by one poll) this season. State freshman Franziska Jaser (D – Burgau, Germany) will likely miss the match due to her involvement with the U-20 German National team.
This is a tune-up exhibition match for both teams as they ready themselves for intense conference play.

When did WSOC start practice? I was on the App website yesterday, and was reading about MSOC and FH starting practice. Maybe the link was a few days old, but it seemed to be a bit late to be starting. I assumed all fall sports had the same start date of 1 Aug or maybe the next week around 7 August for everything besides FB.

I dunno! That was the reason for my rather impudent post yesterday to the SID and staff... viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5112 . The report for fall camp date is set by the head coach of each sport in conjunction with NCAA rules and the date of the first competition.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote:When did WSOC start practice? Both WSOC and MSOC and play before Volleyball or Field Hockey, yet only late today did the WSOC fall camp get a sniff on AppStateSports.com. Still nothing on MSOC.
Go figure the priorities for coverage!

I noticed a tweet for S&C about the first day of FH practice on the new field. That was from 7 hours ago. So I guess today was the first practice for FH. Scrimmage in 6 days. That does not seem like enough time, though the first game is 29 Aug.asu66 wrote:I dunno! That was the reason for my rather impudent post yesterday to the SID and staff... viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5112 . MSOC up now, also... http://www.appstatesports.com/ViewArtic ... =209608043
Neither team got a lof ot "fall camp" in this season. I don't ever remember the time being so short. Volleyball got a couple of weeks--minimum.
There's obviously a pecking order for fall budgetary resources...Football, M & W Basketball, Volleyball, Field Hockey, W & M Soccer...then ???

So if I am reading this correctly, we only had a few practices to save on some food and dorm and slight transportation costs to get to the off-campus fields.

I'm not there every day to observe, but that's the way it appears from afar. Just check how long Volleyball's been practicing for a first match on Aug. 29th. That about says it all.

Wolfpack and Mountaineers Open Fall with Exhibition Match
Aug. 13, 2014
RALEIGH – The NC State women’s soccer team hosted its first and final exhibition contest Wednesday evening against Appalachian State at Dail Soccer Field.
The free-flowing match featured both sides using nearly their full rosters, as a combined total of 42 student athletes took the field throughout the evening.
“It was just good to get out and play 11 vs. 11,” said NC State head coach Tim Santoro. “We haven’t been able to do that much in training because of our numbers, so it was great for us to see some live action.
“We got better as the match went along, getting to the point where we were very comfortable in the second half. That’s a nice trait to have.”
Santoro’s roster this season includes eight returning starters from the 2013 team and features nine newcomers (two transfers and seven freshmen). His freshman class recently received notable acclaim, ranking among the top 20 classes in the country courtesy of BigSoccer and All White Kit.
The Wolfpack will officially open the 2014 season at home on Aug. 22 against UNC-Wilmington.
