UAlbany (0-0) vs. Appalachian State (at JMU) (0-0)
Friday, Aug. 29, 5:00 p.m.
First all-time meeting
Our Mountaineers enter their first season in the Sun Belt Conference in 2014. The squad went 4-7-7 overall in 2013 as members of the SoCon. Despite losing its starting keeper, App State returns senior Stanley Broaden, junior Trey Hemphill and sophomore Stephen Chapmen. The trio accounted for 13 of the teams 19 goals. High School All-American striker Austin Stamey will also see time up top for the Apps. The Mountaineers went to overtime nine times last season, with a record of 1-2-6 in extra time. That experience plus a stout recruiting season will hopefully make for an enjoyable season for App fans.
The Apps went undefeated in the preseason. Today, they begin to play "for keeps."
The Great Danes of Albany went 6-11-4 on their season in the America East last season. They feature a roster of native New Englanders with a heavy presence of import players from Australia, New Zealand and soccer-rich Brazil.
Live stats are available for both men’s soccer games this weekend.
