The America East Conference announced today that four institutions - University of California, Berkeley; University of California, Davis; University of the Pacific and Stanford University - have been accepted as associate members for field hockey beginning with the 2015-16 academic year.

That just leaves APP and Liberty.

Well I figured once full cost of tuition and stipends come about next year, some sports would be cancelled. Maybe this will be the first one. At last there would be a good excuse to cancel it.

If field hockey goes then a men's sport will have to as well.

It would suck for those athletes, but we've never been even close to competitive in field hockey as far as I know.

I'd like to see Cycling get picked up as a varsity sport if possible. Our cycling team is really good nationally as only a club team

I would guess we would add another women's sport instead of canceling a men's. I would love to see lacrosse, if that's the case.

I'm not sure how the scholarship numbers work for field hockey but with Title 9 we have to balance men's and women's scholarships.

When the new AD is hired cutting field hockey and wrestling are 2 things they will probably consider. I would think adding women's lacrosse is a possibility (since they are working on a field hockey stadium switching it to lacrosse wouldn't be that difficult) and cutting men's soccer is a small outside possibility. Maybe they will add sand volleyball or some other women's sport I don't think of being a college sport.

We need to drop FH along with both tennis and golf teams. Then add women's lacrosse. The FH team only has 3 girls from NC on a roster of 24.

They are already playing in that facility. I wouldn't think it would be a problem to make the conversion. The folks who provided the funds for it might not be too thrilled however.

I guess they could become associate members of the CAA.

I bet the CAA would take us. We are not that far away, though CAA is in the southern tier of prime FH area and we would be the doormats even more so that we are now. It would be nice to have 3-4 years with the dedicated field to see if we can turn the program around. That might be wishful thinking on my part but I think the team deserves that now.

I certainly don't see us building a new field hockey facility and then dropping the sport. If we drop any sports, a men's sport would be dropped first. I'm sure we will find a home.
