App State, 0-0-2 (Sun Belt) and 4-5-3 (Overall) goes for its first win in its new conference tonite against Pounce and the Ga State Panthers. The Apps are fresh off of a 2-1 win over Jacksonv1lle and a 2 - 2 double OT draw with conference mate Howard. Ga State (4-7-0, 0-1-0 Sun Belt) is coming off a 2 - 1 OT loss to conference mate New Jersey Institute of Technology and a 4 - 0 shutout against #15 UNC-CH at Fetzer Field.
In looking at rosters and schedules. I am reluctantly giving the edge to Ga State; but at the 31:54 mark of the first half, we have a nil - nil game in progress.
C-mon Apps!

Apparently, it all boiled down to raw foot speed. Another bad sign for the remainder of the season. We aren't scoring against the better teams on the schedule and we had trouble matching the speed of Radford, Duke and Ga State. The remainder of the conference games are at home--with Ga Southern and NJIT. Gotta take advantage of the home pitch. Didn't do that tonite.

I'm not close enough to the program to make too many comments but it does seem that for the past couple of seasons we have trouble scoring. In two of our three SBC games to date, we have failed to score. In six of our 13 games to date we have failed to score. Hard to win if you don't score.

This was a tough loss, to be sure, as we had some great opportunities to score in each half, but just could not put the ball in the net. We were able to play several through- balls to penetrate GSU's backline, for open shot opportunities, but failed to put the ball on frame. Stats show just four out of 16 shots on goal, as we shot a number of shots wide, or just wide of goal. We did a very good job in possession but need to get better in the final third. GSU, on the other hand, put seven out of 10 shots on goal, and Holland Hammond had to make a number of athletic saves to keep GSU off the scoreboard. All in all, a great game for our keeper, a great win for GSU, and another disappointing result for the Apps.
