VB To Host Appalachian Invitational Today & Sat. At HCC

Appalachian State University volleyball will host the Appalachian Invitational this weekend and will welcome Missouri, Liberty and Charlotte to the High Country for a weekend of volleyball.
SCHEDULE:
Friday, Sept. 11
Liberty vs. Charlotte – 4 p.m.
Appalachian State vs. Missouri – 7 p.m. LiveStats and AppTV are available tonite.
SCOUTING MISSOURI:
The Missouri Tigers enter the weekend with a perfect 6-0 record in 2015. Thus far, the Tigers have earned tournament sweeps at their own Tiger Invitational and also the South Florida Invitational. Of those wins, three have been straight-set sweeps (Winthrop, North Texas and Florida Gulf Coast), one has been in four sets (South Florida) and two have gone the distance (North Dakota State and Arkansas State).
Carly Kan leads the Tigers with 96 total kills and 4.17 kills per set, while two other Tigers have recorded over 50 kills. Both Courtney Eckenrode and Ali Kreklow have run the Tiger offense to the tune of 132 and 113 assists, respectively. Eckenrode is averaging a team-high 5.74 assists. Leading the defense, Alexa Ethridge has tallied 84 digs and 3.65 digs per set, while Kan has collected 67 digs.
THE SERIES WITH THE TIGERS:
The lone matchup for both the Tigers and the Mountaineers came on Sept. 1, 2012 when Missouri swept App State at the Lipscomb Invitational.
ASU ON NATIONAL LANDSCAPE: Paige Brown is currently 6th in the nation in assists per set (11.92) and 12th in total assists (310), while Jess Keller is tied for 21st in total kills (111) and 36th in kills per set (4.27).
DOUBLE-DOUBLE CLUB:
Thus far in 2015, senior setter Paige Brown has posted three double-doubles. The 2015 Preseason Setter of the Year accomplished the feat in back-to-back matches at the Big Orange Bash (Aug. 28-29). Brown tallied 52 assists and 16 digs in a 3-1 loss to UNC Wilmington, while posting 42 assists and 11 digs in a sweep of Clemson.
Last weekend, Brown collected a season-high 59 assists and also recorded 13 digs in a five-set loss to Virginia. In the same match, senior outside hitter Emily Corrigan also recorded a double-double (her first of the season) with 22 kills and 15 digs.
HOME SWEET HOME:
Dating back to the 2013 season, Appalachian State is 26-7 at the Holmes Center –good for a .788 winning percentage.
2014 was a banner year at home for the Mountaineers that saw the Black and Gold turn in a 14-2 (.875%) record on their home court.

So far in 2015, both Jess Keller (111, 4.27) and Emily Corrigan (77, 2.96) are currently in the top three on the team in kills and kills per set, while senior setter Paige Brown is far and away the assist leader for the Mountaineers (310). Meanwhile, senior libero Meghan Mahoney is leading the squad with 118 digs on the year.
CHASING HISTORY:
Senior Emily Corrigan came into the 2015 season with 988 career kills. After four matches, the senior has cracked the 1,000 kill club and currently has tallied 1,065 career kills. That total is 67 kills behind 10th all-time.
Senior Paige Brown entered this season with 3,143 career assists. In her opening seven matches of the season, Brown has recorded 310 assists – bumping her career total to 3,453. That tally is currently good for fifth all-time in program history.
On the defensive side, senior libero Meghan Mahoney has tallied 118 total digs on the year. Entering 2015, Mahoney had recorded 1,329 career digs, which was good for fifth to begin the year. With just 118 digs, Mahoney has vaulted from fifth to fourth all-time in program history and remains 422 digs away from tying Courtney Rhein for the all-time program record of 1,869 career digs.
