The Apps are on the road to Radford this evening. Pretty much all we need to know about this match-up is that the Apps and the Highlanders aren't on equal footing in any way, shape or form. Radford leads the Big South in shots per game (15.4) so far this season. The Apps average 12.8. It's downhill from there. The Highlanders will put players from 15 different countries on the pitch tonight.

The Highlanders lead the all-time series with App 10-7-1. Radford and Appalachian met last season in Boone with the Highlanders claiming a 1-0 overtime win. The Highlanders have won the previous five meetings.

We're talking about Radford; in the Big South. There's no excuse for Appalachian to lose five straight matches to Radford; and three of those losses were on our home pitch! Not Kool. Radford coach Mark Reeves is the architect of those five consecutive wins. Remember his name!

well, we need to put boddies on men in the box. Two easy corners, with men unmarked.

We only managed to put two shots on goal, and finally scored late to make it respectable. Radford is loaded with internationals and were very good in maintaining possession in tight spaces. We competed well at times, but they held a decisive advantage in shots and SOG (22/10).

The Highlanders have now won the previous six meetings. It's not working. Coach Matt is slowly digging his...

I've kept up with the program since Udogu and usyian were here . Our recruiting is mediocre and the record vs mediocre teams is not acceptable. Time for a change. There is no excuse for us not being a top tier team.

Last Spring there were threads wanting fire the baseball coach. Before that it was fire Capel. Before that it was fire Moore. Before that it was fire Fancher. Before that it was fire Huestess.

The baseball coach and the soccer coach have a lot in common the teams have gotten worse year after year (among other issues). Do I really need to explain Capel? The Moore situation has been addressed over and over. So feel free to get off this board because some of us want Apps teams to compete and win, not suck.

Just saying it's an endless cycle of posters wanting to fire coaches which should be administrative decisions.

Such decisions are always made administratively; and approved by the chancellor and BOT before they are announced officially. No one on this forum has anything more than either first-hand or hearsay information about what's going on behind the scenes and opinions about the situation(s). I believe opinions are still allowed.

As for first-hand information, ASU has had seven head coaches since its last appearance in the Men's College Cup, aka the NCAA Division I Soccer Championship. That's 35 years of futility since Hank Steinbrecher had an ASU team in the championship tourney. Coach Matt Nelson is presently working on a one-year "make or break" contract extension. So far, it isn't going well. Hopefully, he and his guys can turn it around. They get another chance to start a turn-around Tuesday at Winthrop--a 1-5 team whose only win came against D-III Wingate. Let's see how that one works out.

But you can't sell Winthrop short! They are one of just two teams on our schedule who finished 2014 with RPI below 50 -the other being Radford. Of course this is a new season and it sounds like a slow start- but look who they have played: College of Charleston, Furman, UNCC.

there may be enough wins left on the schedule to get us to 10 wins, and hopefully a Sunbelt Conference title and NCAA auto bid. if last year is any indication, Sunbelt is the weakest NCAA D-1 conference for men's soccer, so hopefully we can come away with 4-5 wins in conference play. PC should be an automatic W. as they were dead last RPI last year. Certainly we should look for wins over USC-Upstate and UNC-A, although Upstate is coming off a win over Winthrop and UNCA seems to be improved under their new coach. As they say, we shall see.

No you said we shouldn't comment on things we knew nothing about. Well seems quite a few know more about good soccer than you think. I played on the amateur league in Charlotte and referee'd high school and college soccer for 10 years AND I'm watching Liverpool vs Norwich right now with a good cup of coffee. Now that I have established I'm as great as Donald Trump ; I know my soccer ....we are below average and need a BIG change. I'd say that starts with a new coaching staff.

That was me that said that, and it was in response to "newapp". Anyone who has kept up with this program knows a change is needed. We should demand nothing short of excellence on and off the field from ALL our programs. I don't agree with accepting anything less.
