ASU WSoc gave up a goal in the second minute of today's home match against Georgia State and could not punch a ball into the back of the net in the next 88 minutes. It was a sour ending for ASU's seniors, who were honored on Senior Day before the kick-off. In losing the match, the Mountaineers also lost the third seed in the Sun Belt Championship Tourney scheduled for Nov. 4-8 in Atlanta.
The now fourth seeded Apps will face the league's fifth seed--apparently UALR--in the tourney's first round. The two teams battled to a double OT draw in a mid-season match at Ted Mac Field in Boone.
The Apps finished the regular season with a very respectable 9-5-3 overall record; 5-2-1 in SBC play. A win today would have been very advantageous for the team--but it just wasn't to be.
Curiously *maybe even sadly* our ladies counterparts (the ASU men), lost to that other Georgia team (Ga South) last night on a goal scored in the third minute of play. Those early game defensive letdowns obviously count. Ouch, do they ever.
