The RPI # 113 Bowling Green Falcons (MAC) visit The High Country Tuesday for an afternoon clash with our RPI #162 Mountaineers. The match features two teams struggling to put it all together before their respective conference tourneys. B.Green (8-8-1, 1-3-0 MAC) has had a disappointing up and down season and is close to elimination from the four-team Mid-America Conference Tourney. In fact, they'll need to defeat Akron, the nation's #5 team, in a road contest and get some help from their conference mates to make tourney muster. That probably won't happen.
As for the Apps (6-7, 1-3 Sun Belt), this match could propel the team to a strong finish and renewed focus as hosts of the 2015 Sun Belt Men's Soccer Tourney--or--it could be another nail in the coffin of yet another under-achieving Mountaineer squad.
Live video from the Appalachian Soccer Stadium will be available over the Appalachian Sports Network (AppTV)... http://www.appstatesports.com/mediaPort ... M_ID=21500
Regardless of the outcome of this contest, I'm working on an OpEd on Mountaineer Men's Soccer. It'll (briefly, no long thesis planned) summarize my observations of the program as a former player and as a dyed-in-the-wool supporter of the program since 1962. I plan to name names of those who built and supported the program's foundation; those who gave it only lip service and those who have it almost on life support in 2015.
