Fourth seeded App State (11-6-3, 6-3-1 Sun Belt) faces first seeded South Alabama (17-2-1, 10-0 Sun Belt) at 4 PM this afternoon in the semi-finals of the Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tourney.
The two teams met late in the regular season with USA taking a 3-0 win on their home pitch. Today's match will be on a neutral pitch at the Lakepoint Sports Complex in Emerson, Ga. The tourney had to be moved due to heavy rains in Atlanta that flooded Georgia State's entire soccer complex. GSU is the host of the 2015 women's tourney.
A neutral site for the match is well and good for the ASU women--but it may not be nearly enough. South Alabama ran the table in SBC play this season; going unbeaten in 10 league matches to date and showing no sign of a weakness. The Jags slashed UL-L for seven goals in their opening round match on Wednesday. They have simply been untouchable. ASU's women, to their credit, are playing their best soccer of the season right now. They'd like nothing better than to knock the Jags out of the tourney. That's a tall order.
