MSOC on AppSt TV Friday 8.19 PM--NOT

Unread post by asu66 » Thu Aug 18, 2016 10:34 am

Despite the AppSt TV "Live Event" schedule posted on appstsports.com showing a soccer match with perhaps the season's toughest opponent (Coastal Carolina), it's posted in error. Today is only the team's 10th day in camp. Methinks they aren't quite ready for a Top 10 opponent. Maybe a Sat. PM exhibition at High Point makes more sense for the pre-season.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this is the first year since soccer moved away from KBS that streaming soccer on ASN is happening?

No, this isn't the first season. The Ted Mackorell soccer complex was outside of the university broadband network during its first few years of operation. There was no fiber connection available. The athletic department had to fund that cable installation. This will be about the third full year that the connectivity has been available. IIRC, no more than three or four matches per year have been made available--if that. ASU has hosted both the SoCon and Sun Belt tourneys in recent years. Fiber connectivity is a prerequisite for being considered as a host site.

I believe the "off-campus" location has been a factor/reason/convenient excuse for not putting more matches on the AppTV schedule. This is just one of a half-a-dozen good reasons why a new on-campus venue needs to be built.

After I posted that I remember watching some games last year. It is odd how they choose games to broadcast over ASN or not. Every MSoc home game is on ASN except the last one of the year. Why?
