Newbie

Unread post by Downeaster » Mon Sep 12, 2016 8:45 pm

Hello all .. Just registered... My daughter is in her second year at App and this is also my second year of being in the Josef Club with season tickets..

I only was only able to make one game last year ( Ga State) but am very impressed with your game day experience in Boone...

I will be headed up this weekend to watch ASU whoop up on Miami ..

Was wondering what to do afterwards.. I have eaten at some of your restaurants and love the food in Boone but am not sure where to go to celebrate any big wins ...

Thanks in advance for any help you guys could give...

GO MOUNTAINEERS !!!!

Support local places. Depends on what kind of food you like. Town Tavern and Peppers are good places.

If you don't have a reservation this weekend you might be SOL. Lost Provence brewery and restaurant.

Yes it is the Yosef club .. My apologies... you would think I would know that after that nice portable phone charger they gave us in appreciation of our donation last year . Got a flag this year and gave it to my daughter...

[ Excuse my ignorance, but really need reservations? That's cool if you do, just confirming, both Friday and Saturday need reservations? I've never been to Boone, and yes I am a Miami fan, thx ]

Does Lost Province take reservations?

And yes, My Emme, you might need reservations to get into a lot of the more popular spots. Not everywhere takes them, but lots of places do. The town will be chock-full. I hope you'll stay a bit and check out the town. You might be surprised.

Some favorites are Our Daily Bread, Black Cat Burrito, Melanies and Proper, but I'm sure all of those places will be packed Saturday. Lots of good choices in Blowing Rock too. Woodlands BBQ is a favorite of many App fans, but there are options that range from pub fare to pretty fancy. A look at TripAdvisor should get you pretty close.

I'd recommend reservations at places that take reservations or call ahead seating. There's a huge pep rally Friday evening, so it might make sense to go to dinner while others are at the pep rally.

Cafe Portofino is my favorite non-chain restaurant in Boone.

Just remember, the permanent population of Boone is about 17,000. Add 18,000 students and a few folks in town for a little football game, and you get to crowded rather quickly. Blowing Rock is close enough for grabbing dinner as well.

I hope you enjoy everything about your stay in Boone ... except the score of the game. Do let us know what other questions you have about navigating our little town.
If serving is beneath you, then leading is beyond you.

If you are a craft beer enthusiast check out Appalachian Mountain Brewery (AMB). Cool place to hang out and have a few beers. They have a food truck that has good wood fired pizza. I doubt it will get too crowded after the game. Most pints are $4 and pizzas $10-$12. Rustic open air place that to me epitomizes Boone.

As others say town will be a zoo. Boone is a small place so game day gets congested.

You are far off the game we played, it was not Georgia anyone. The game you attended had to be Wyoming that is the only game that it rained the entire game. The Georgia Southern game was a Thursday night and it did not rain. However welcome to the board.

It wasn't raining during the Georgia Southern game, so that is interesting.

As far as places to celebrate after the game, I'll be on King Street flipping over cop cars. You are welcome to join me.

In all seriousness, if you want to avoid crowds, head out towards Banner Elk. Lots of good eats out there. I expect Boone and Blowing Rock to be packed.

Proper is excellent but small, Capone's has excellent deep dish pizza, Black Cat has great food, App Mountain Brewery is great for beer, Grandfather Winery is an awesome place to go chill and drink wine, Woodlands in Blowing Rock has the best BBQ around. Peppers is alright but their service is extremely slow

If you stayed for the entire Wyoming game last year you would qualify as a true Mountaineer. Maybe some of the worst conditions of any game I've attended in the 40+ years of following Mountaineer football (I happen to enjoy the cold and/or snowy football games, rain not so much). It was nice to beat those Cowpokes in the tootsie roll uniforms.

Have a ball this weekend and just be prepared and patient and go with the flow as a win will bring a party of epic proportions!!!

Now I'm getting a little fuzzy about bad weather games because we've had more than our share in the last few years. Which one was it last year that they cleared out the stadium because of lightning? I remember we were way ahead and only a few hundred folks came back once it restarted. I never left. Just huddled in the bathroom for about a half hour. Was that the Wyoming game?

Thank you Speed King.. I did indeed stay until the end.. By myself because my daughter refused to go..

The only other game ii have been to in Boone was the Halloween ( eve ? ) 2014 game ( it snowed 6 inches!!!!) . I took my daughter to visit the school and bought tix... I had taken my boat offshore at Beaufort inlet the weekend before Mahi fishing and was wrapped up tight the next...

Hope I don't bring a storm with me this time !!

ATL. That was the Campbell U. game in 2014 when the storm stopped the game.
