Look on the bright side. Not having a TV contract will keep some fans at the games.

We have Sling TV for $20 a month and watch ESPN 3 on TV thru the free Roku that Sling gives as part of the deal.
Sling is great on iPads too.

I just added slingTV. Quality is fantastic! I also just installed an outdoor HD Antenna and a Tablo so I get all my local channels on Roku as well.

The buffering problem seems to go away if you drink more beer

I have AT&T 1Gbps which I can consistently verify speed at 600 Mbps on my MacBook via wifi to AT&T router. I have both an older Roku and new Firestick and stream all kinds of content regularly (movies, sports, etc.). If the source is good, I never have an issue from AT&T to my devices.

On Saturday I experienced video throttling and buffering throughout the game on BOTH Roku and Firestick. More on Roku than Firestick so I ended up watching Firestick for most of game. My Firestick is 1080p and Roku 720p. Firestick picture quality went from really good at times to dropping back to pixelating at other times, then to the video pausing with audio continuing uninterrupted and then to buffering, obviously due to inconsistent streaming feed. I have gone back and rewatched TxSt game later at a time when millions of viewers nationwide are probably not online at the same time and the replay stream is fine.

My conclusion based on my evidence and everything else I have heard on this thread is probably what one said earlier that ESPN streaming was probably overloaded and the inconsistent results occurred. Some had issues and others were fine. The problem was most likely NOT on your end of the connection or your devices assuming they work fine at other times.

The thing none of us can control is the sheer number of streams ESPN has going at any one time. I noticed when watching a couple CFL games in July and early August before the volume picked up that the quality was insanely good.
I wonder if they use Amazon services like Netflix does to help with spikes in demand? There are so many places for things to fall apart it is hard to know whom to blame.

Again, I thank all for the responses, my personal problem is that I can get ESPN3 on my android but TWC/Spectrum isn't supporting the casting from androids to the TV - do I have any other options without having to purchase something new? ---

It would take more than a dozen shots of Crown Royal to make the buffering go away as bad as it was Saturday.

I had very little trouble with buffering last year.

So much trouble to get such bad production. Just goes to prove how dedicated we are.
