App v GS rivalry needs a trophy
Re: App v GS rivalry needs a trophy
I agree. Trophy needed.
I am just not sure what that trophy should be. Paddles? Seems too ... um ... sophomoric.
The JUG was perfect for the ASU/WCU rivalry. But, what do GaSo & ASU have in common? I can't think of much. It's a LONG way down there. Swamp land vs. Mtn. land. They have gnats & we don't.
Surely some tangible item could be found that would capture the essence of the rivalry. Bug spray? Nah, they prolly wouldn't go for that.
Creek water buckets? The Golden Bucket? A wooden bucket?
Don't know. I am open to suggestions.

This is easy, black and blue bowl and play for an old paddle. Someone mock one up and send it to Gillen. He can convince GS's inept AD to do anything.

Ummm....How bout a football....black on one side....blue on the other. Just saying. Are we over thinking this?

Yosefscabin.com is an App fanboard. Why would we randomly assume you were talking about Georgia Southern vs. NMSU?sixtoes9134 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2017 9:29 amSouthern and NMSU play this coming Saturday. So, no, not a week behind.

Because the thread is about Georgia Southern, to an extent. Likewise, do you really think someone on this board would not have known that WE played NMSU last weekend?ComebackShack wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2017 12:07 pmYosefscabin.com is an App fanboard. I think it would be cool if the trophy was awarded to the loser, and the loser has to display it until they win again. A trophy nobody wants.

Have you been on this board before? 50% are senile, so it isn't out of placesixtoes9134 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2017 12:28 pmBecause the thread is about Georgia Southern, to an extent. That would put a unique spin on a traveling trophy. It would definitely get national attention.

I love it!
Make a resin mold of a crushed pizza box with a picture of goal posts sticking through a bus window on the box top and award it to the loser of the game.

How about a Socon Championship replica trophy that goes to the loser?

Holly Farms chicken(now Tyson) started in Wilkesboro/Zacsby's started in Statesboro GA. Losing team serves winning team teams AD chicken dinner. Trophy is a big golden/Blue fork for DG to hold in the stands for years to come.

Re: App v GS rivalry needs a trophy
For one thing, the rivalry with Western was a true geographical rivalry. Both schools relatively near each other slugging it out for supremacy in the mountains. The jug was a natural and very appropriate trophy. We have none of that with GS. These things just dont work when they are contrived. Just beating them is fun enough.yosef13 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2017 9:31 amI'm surprised at the response. I did not realize so much of our fan base thought the idea was so lame. The jug seemed to be fun for the player, coaches, and the fans. It also seems that the best rivalries in college football have something similar at stake. I guess I misread the level of interest.

I guess you could mock up a trophy of a yellow school bus with goalposts thru the windows and pizzas scattered about.

True, we are not geographically compatible with GS, but I did not realize that was part of the criteria for a rivalry. ND and USC, Tenn and UF, UM and OSU, and the list goes on.AppinATL wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2017 3:05 pmFor one thing, the rivalry with Western was a true geographical rivalry. While we are not close in proximity with GS, the competition between the schools has been fierce. It seems natural to celebrate the game with a symbol. I don't see how doing so would be contrived, since the rivalry already exist. Now if we did this with Troy or A-State that would be completely contrived.
I wonder what the reaction was when jug idea was introduced in the 70's.

Re: App v GS rivalry needs a trophy
Given the short distance, I would prefer a rivalry trophy, if we have one be with WFU. We are close, we share the same colors...basically. Its a better geographical match, and the stadiums are packed! This needs to be our annual rivalry when DG and the WFU AD can set it up; given schedules are set years in advance. And, I think, both schools desire it.

Re: App v GS rivalry needs a trophy
I'm not sure the AD or fan base at WF feel the same. GS is our rival. Just slap an unusual trophy on the game and in a few years we have a tradition, just like we did with WCU in the 70's.appstate77 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2017 3:47 pmGiven the short distance, I would prefer a rivalry trophy, if we have one be with WFU. Unless I'm mistaken, ND-USC is the only one of the rivalries you mentioned that has a trophy.yosef13 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2017 3:36 pmTrue, we are not geographically compatible with GS, but I did not realize that was part of the criteria for a rivalry. My father has a leg lamp which my mom insists he's being buried with because she despises it so much. I could probably convince her to let it depart our household for a better purpose
