North End Zone Project Gets Green Light
I was able to spend some time yesterday and last night listening to and talking with the universities' principals responsible in one way or another with the implementation of "A Mountaineer Impact Initiative" for athletics. I can say *unofficially* that the campaign war chest has grown to the extent that work that will culminate in time for the '20 season will get underway soon after the Dec 2 end-of-regular-season game with UL-L.
Expect a ground-breaking, photo-op ceremony on some bitter-cold December day and the razing of Owens Fieldhouse to follow during the winter. By late next summer, the old "crane" joke will be back in vogue. "What's the official bird of the App State campus? Why, the crane...construction crane...of course. Things going away will include Owens Fieldhouse and the rubber track surface in KBS. What will be built--and where--will evolve over time as site prep landscapers, engineers and architects dig into the project with the senior athletic admin. Fear not, it's all good
Dozens of us have our own pet projects and brainstorms about what to do, but in the final analysis, Doug Gillin and his brain-trust in the Athletics Center will be making the calls. Support them with all your might and, of course, your pledges. Pauletta and I have made a five-year pledge to the campaign and we'll do more if we can find a way. We challenge each Mountaineer to make a pledge--as much as you can. Be your pledge large or small, it all adds to the fund's growth and makes us all part of the solution. Do It, gals and guys! Contact Brian Tracy or Suzette Mauney in Athletic Development or a member of that staff for more info.

As Gonzo said in a previous thread, they should allow people to operate a jackhammer for 1-2 minutes, maybe even charge $20 to $50 a pop as a fundraiser.

Had a meeting with a Yosef Club official Wednesday and heard a lot about this. Going to be something. Premium seating ala the Blue Zone at UNC, Nice new YC club room over looking the players entrance like we used to have before they moved it to the Quinn, likely a mini version of the book store so you can actually buy some apparel while youre at the game, and he even said they are in talks to partner with the Boone ortho guys to have a permanent clinic there for our student athletes and the community at large. And yes the track is going to be gone. He could have stopped right there and I would've gotten my check book out.

"Athletics Director Doug Gillin of Appalachian State said the school has raised $27 million for the initiative already. Ricks’ donation, Gillin said, will be paid over a period of years."

They better not add any seats!
This has been a great week for the program. Win v GS on ESPN, bowl eligible, massive gift, and the go ahead for a KBS expansion.

There is already a waiting list for club seats, so I'm sure they go to the front of the line for the new project./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 10, 2017 10:41 amWhen does the waiting list for the new club seats start?

Re: North End Zone Project Gets Green Light
Excited to see that the do. Obviously, most want the track gone first. Would also like the black A logo on the field. I like the white one in general, but black might look sweet with the black endzones. The white one we have now looks faded too. Also paint the sidelines black instead of current gold. It looks like crap and is also faded

So we are planning on forfeiting this track season and canceling the next 1-2?
That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

Do you always have to be negative Grouch? The program is getting their own facility which they more than deserve.

Hey, I'm the negative one here!
It is a fair question to ask what this means for Outdoor T&F. Coach Weaver has won more conference titles than any other coach in App State history BY FAR. Maybe more than everyone else combined.
T&F deserves the Old WHS stadium, which is closer to being usable than many realize, although a lot of work is still to be done.

Re: North End Zone Project Gets Green Light
Not to start a black vs white Block A discussion but we REALLY need to pick one and stick with it. We apparently moved forward with the black A on uniforms/helmets, but we have a white A on the 50 (that's old, so it's ok), on the press box brick pillars, and on the new scoreboard. Just saying some uniformity (either way) is needed.
CAN'T WAIT to see what they'll actually do with the north endzone facility...so long as it (yep you know what I'm about to say) appears uniform with what we've already got.

I would pay that. I’d pay double that. And I’d sign whatever wave I need to.
I’m sure I’m not the only one with such scorn for that orange eye sore.

Re: North End Zone Project Gets Green Light
I would assume the current club seat owners would get first choice at the North Endzone seats and then waiting list people would be offered any seats left or current seats now open./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 10, 2017 10:41 amWhen does the waiting list for the new club seats start?

Re: North End Zone Project Gets Green Light
And if we could bid out and modify/rebuild the old WHS track in 2-3 months It would not be an issue. If we get it planned out, approved and bid out, the earliest it would likely start is April. NCAA track lanes are 6"-8" wider, and the turns are more sweeping than a typical high school track. It will take removing the Visitor stands and moving some or the banks to the far end to widen the track and rework the turns. Not to mention, that right now we don't have a pot to piss in, literally, over there. There are no bathrooms, training rooms, locker rooms or Appalcart routes that stop on the property.Goapps15 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 10, 2017 4:08 pmI agree. There is at least 8-12 months of work before we can start training over there. That and we do have a college meet scheduled and most likely have a High School meet on the books as well that is a good recruiting tool. The track will need to stay until at least June.

I have earned my name here.
You want the title, name a thread and we can have a week long bitch off and bury everything and everyone that has anything to due with ASU.
