The Band

Unread post by Rekdiver » Fri Nov 10, 2017 9:09 pm

Bank to my band rant. Th GSU was across from the West stands. They played the whole game and we could hear them clear and loud. We rarely heard our band. I hope we move the band and cut back the canned music.

I didn't hear their band at all. All I could hear was our band. There is no perfect spot, I think they're in as good a spot as possible. If we put them on the East side, then the West side hears them great, but the East side will struggle and vice versa. Of course, the canned music is better than it used to be, but still needs to be cut back.

Physics. GSU band was certainly louder than App band to my ears, although I was sitting literally right next to the BOD.

You can tell it's the GSU band because their fight song sounds like it came from the opening of Looney Toons.

The band was moved to the end zone because when they were in the east stands, those of us that sit in the east stands couldn't hear a note. I will raise hell if they move hem back. I definitely noticed last night that the band has stepped it up and that the canned music was refreshingly minimized. They let the band play between plays and the canned music came at dead spots like time outs. It was a good balance I think the AV people are finally getting the hang of it.

Notice where the big stadiums with the huge bands place them during the game - they are usually in the curve of the end zone or in the end zone itself - has to be the best place or they wouldn't be there ---

I sit in the East stands and wasn't far from the GS band. I could hear both bands. The whole reason the BOD was moved to the end zone was 1) seating and 2) so that BOTH sides of the stadium could hear them. Obviously, there are going to be dead sports depending on where you sit. Also, because the BOD performs a half time show there are periods they aren't in the stands while getting ready and during the third quarter break.

It seems to me that the piped in music has been cut back and is much less intrusive than it was earlier in the season. Maybe I've just been able to tune it out but I'm pretty sure it's factual. I think the powers that be are trying to be responsive here.

Just seemed like GS band played 3 times as much as ours did.

I think it is ridiculous that the one place we put the band it where the visiting fans can hear them the best. At the very least move our band to the other side of the end zone stands away from the opposing fans and band.

There were several times they were playing at the same time. What’s up with that?

Solution: mike the band!
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

I also sit on the East side and was unaware that the Georgia Southern
Band was even in the stadium. Sound is very directional.

Agree, must use the new sound system to our advantage. Mic the band. North End zone should be for GA only, no students or band. Open seating after half for anyone and standing room only crowd. Our BOD deserves to be back on the west or east side to lead and encourage students/fans. Many parents come to the game to support and watch their kids perform (players and band members). The band should be in a place of prominence in the stands, not the worst seats at the Rock. Last, but not least, our band must be allowed back on the field after the game to play Tennessee Waltz in front of west side.

Well they did not have to spend time cheering for any TDs.

It seems GaSo always brings there band, or at least brings it most years.

What I had not noticed before was their bringing their live mascot bald eagle. I thought that was nice, though I may not have appreciated it as much had we been losing at the time.

We'll see how the expansion effects band placement... down the road. I was GSU side, heard our band... appreciated the reduced canned music... years past, it was out of control... The band does need to be mic'd... lot's of schools do that... a solid idea..

I wrote DG and suggest others do too.
1. Mic the Band
2. Get a human Yosef who can shoot the damn rifle. ( let ROTC find a cannon to shoot)
3. Have a seat upgrade in the first quarter to a box for some fan in the stands

#3 could be based on purchasing a program such as done by Hardee's.

Probably need some people to move into the student section after they go to drink more.
