Mobile, AL questions

Unread post by MobileBama » Sun Dec 03, 2017 8:54 pm

Welcome to Mobile! The date stinks but I think those that come will have a good time. Please feel free to ask me any questions or shoot me a message and I'll answer all of them.

Thank you! We’re definitely excited about Mobile and the Dollar Genral Bowl, but as you mentioned, we just wished it was a little further from Christmas. GO APP!

The news release stated team travel info etc would be released Monday. I think the Alumni Association will announce an App Alumni and Friends HQ Bar shortly.
My buddy and I booked a flight on Delta using airline points! Rental car booked! Got hotel rooms at Renaissance Battle House.
VERY EARLY flight back on the 24th but will be home before noon on Christmas Eve!!
GO APPS!!

Both the Riverview and Battle House are very close and both owned by the same entity. Both nice.

Mobile's a great town! I wish I could get away from work longer to enjoy a few days before the bowl game. Go App! Beat Toledo!

Do you need someone to speak to that slave-driving boss of yours?

She's a real slave driver for sure! The good news is that she works every bit as hard as I do. ;)

It's about 5 minute ride but not walking distance. Parking inside the gates is first come first serve. There is nothing near the stadium. Get in and get out. Tailgate on Dauphin Street. Make sure to eat a good meal before game especially if you have kids. Concessions are terrible

USS Alabama, Bellingrath Gardens, ice skating Fort Conde, Fairhope, AL, Dauphin Street bars/restaurants, Serda Brewing

Restaurants - Chuck's Fish, Dumbwaiter, Southern National, NOJA, Wintzells, Moe's BBQ

Bars - Dauphin Street has tons of bars just start at team hotel and walk south. Something for everyone

Can't stress enough to stay downtown

Mardi Gras parade Friday night downtown. Cool parade with team's bands, local floats, etc. Will run in front of hotels

I know that some of my NC brethren are bbq snobs but I will have to say that I have partaken of the Moes in Orange Beach, AL and they have some good Que and good sides. 8-)

If you're bringing kids, make sure they bring bags or backpacks for the Mardi Gras parade. They'll catch a ton of beads, moon pies, stuffed animals, etc. It's a first class Mardi Gras parade with floats from parading societies. It's definitely the highlight of the bowl experience.

Here's a cool video of Battleship, parade and pep rally from Kent State point of view:

MobileBama - my party is staying near the interstate at Spring Hill Suites (my hotel of choice). Are there places to park on Saturday in the downtown area at a reasonable price? Any suggestions? I guess we will park in the $20 lot for the game. Also, how far is the battleship area from downtown? Thanks - look forward to visiting Mobile.

MobileBama,

Looking at Google Maps it looks like the team hotel is across an interstate... Is that right? If so, what is the best way to get over to the other side to see the parade, pep rally, and bar hopping?

Thanks!

There will tons of parking downtown on Saturday especially early in the day:
Park around Bienville Square for free
pay lot next door to NOJAs Restaurant 6 N. Jackson Street (see Google map)
Riverview Plaza parking garage off Water Street
pay lot across the street from Admiral Hotel 251 Government Street (see Google map)

Battleship is about 2-3 minute drive from downtown. Can't walk due to tunnel under river

Good idea on parking in stadium lot. Thanks for coming to Mobile hope yall have a good time!

I assume the team hotel is the Renaissance Riverview Plaza? If so, the parade runs right in front of the hotel lobby but I'd watch around Bienville Square. Your hotel is at the end of the route and many riders will be low on throws. Hotel is really perfect for parade, pep rally and bar hopping. Really nice and lots of opportunities to see players, coaches, etc.

Pep Rally is across the highway on the river but there's a sky bridge and police escorting people across the highway. After pep-rally police escorting back across the highway. Easy walk back to Dauphin Street bar hopping
