Re: GO ARMY!
I've found myself pulling for Army today. Having family who have served in both branches, I have pulled for both over the years. Next year might be different.

Though I was pulling for Army, I feel bad for their kicker. A 48yd FG in those conditions is nearly impossible, and he about pulled it off.

Re: GO ARMY!
Usually pull for Army. Father and Father in law served. Today especially pulled for Army as their uniforms represented the 10th Mountain Division which my Father in Law served in during WWll

Re: GO ARMY!
Always love watching this game. One day I want to attend in person. My father is retired Air Force , at the end of his career he retired at Pope AFB (now Pope Field) . Pope is right next to Fort Bragg and the 82nd Airborne so I usually pull for ARMY. I really just want a good game and we got one yesterday. That was awesome.

I was stationed at Pope from 76 - 78, Military Airlift Command (MAC) Base. At the time, I was single and lived in the barracks, heard those C-130s/C5s coming and going 24/7.

Great game in tough conditions played by honorable student athletes. Definitely would like to attend this game one day.

Re: GO ARMY!
I grew up in Fayetteville (dad was a retired 1SG) and my house was near the landing path of aircraft landing at Simmons. The constant roar of C-130's, C-5's and helicopters galore was a fixture of my childhood. Even to this day I look up when I see a plane flying overhead.WataugaMan wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2017 8:29 amI was stationed at Pope from 76 - 78, Military Airlift Command (MAC) Base. I even remember feeling the vibrations from the artillery range, at least that's what my dad said it was.

Re: GO ARMY!
I'll never forget the day I saw my first F-17/18. As previously stated, Pope was a MAC Base, no strategic aircraft was stationed there. One day I was having my car worked on at a gas station just outside the back gate at Pope, next to the flight line. While standing outside the gas station, across the road (at the flight line) there was a F18 taking off. It was moving at what appeared to be a slow pace, then next thing I remember it took off like a bat out of hell, went 90 degrees straight up and within a couple seconds all I saw was the afterburners. Then it was gone!!

Re: GO ARMY!
On one of my deployments, some of the 130s (e models) I worked had flown sorties in Vietnam. There was a Hanoi Jane sticker on the pisser in one of them. These were 61 and 62 tail models. We used them to basically fly in circles to allow ground communications (like old school flying cell towers). On my final deployment, I worked the C-130J model out of Afghanistan. Those were 2006-2008 models. J model C-130 had more blades on the props, larger jet engines (yep, those props are powered by jets) and some of the most modern avionics systems in DOD at the time. Don't tell the AMC guys those planes weren't "strategic." Also, Pope's damn near dead now. I was out of Little Rock.

Re: GO ARMY!
Those fast movers scare the hell out of me too!!! They zoom around unannounced all over the theater when you are deployed, and your status is Army, so we dive under stuff to be safe. I am stationed in Charlotte at the Army National Guard Armory & located at the end of some runways. We are lulled to sleep 24/7 by take off/landings of airplanes and military aircraft (Usually C-130s)...and when one of them take off from time to time = WOW.WataugaMan wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2017 9:11 pmI'll never forget the day I saw my first F-17/18. Re: GO ARMY!
Currently, I live near both Pax's River Air Station (Navy) and Andrew's AFB. Recently, I was standing on the pier at Solomon's Island (near Pax), and three Stealth Bombers came cruising by in formation. They looked like space alien aircraft, bad ass big time. There was an older lady near by (late 70s maybe), she tapped me on the shoulder and said, "That's what freedom looks like" lol. And, I believe(d) her!
Imagine three of these in formation just cruising up the river, in the sky of course:
