Ayers retiring at Wofford
Wofford is calling a press conference at 1:30 p.m. today to announced Mike Ayers is retiring after being head coach for 30 years.
Nate Woody would absolutely be a candidate to replace him.

Re: Ayers retiring at Wofford
Makes sense but how much could they pay him? Wondering if that would really be Woody's best move right now.

Wofford people I know are talking up Wade Lang, current OC and QB coach.

Re: Ayers retiring at Wofford
If Satt goes in the next few years, wouldn't he likely take some of his staff? Why would Woody go back down to FCS, when he has the potential to get upgraded with Satt? I would much rather be a DC in the AAC then a HC at Wofford.

Or he could potentially replace Satt, though this move wouldn't necessarily preclude that.

Re: Ayers retiring at Wofford
It might. What if you go to Wofford and have a bumpy start, while Elliott gets hot in Atl? Either way, I don't think you take the risk and go to Wofford. It doesn't make much sense. I'd stay put and wait for my FBS options to play out.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2017 1:40 pmOr he could potentially replace Satt, though this move wouldn't necessarily preclude that.

Only two programs have, NDSU and JMU. One of these two will likely get another in January. I respect Ayers, but I can't say I care that he never got an FCS title. He's a SoCon HOF type coach either way.

Re: Ayers retiring at Wofford
Agree. But Wofford hasn't approached me with a job offer yet. (Unlike Tennessee, who I assume was turned down by every member of this board.)yosef13 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2017 3:18 pmIt might. Re: Ayers retiring at Wofford
Ever since the day in Spartanburg in 2007 as their fans rushed the field and yelled obscenities at our players and fans as we left I just don’t care for that school.
Congrats to Ayers, but I’m fine never hearing about wofford football ever again.

Those two teams have long been powerhouses, but the FCS ain't what it used to be it seems.

That was one hot freakin day. I got over it mainly because they may have won the battle, but we won the war that year....

And the revenge game in 08 was epic! #2 App versus #3 Wofford on Friday night (Halloween) and we beat them like a rented mule....Longrifle28 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2017 11:37 amThat was one hot freakin day. I got over it mainly because they may have won the battle, but we won the war that year....
