No More Vintage Yosef
No More Vintage Yosef
The "Vintage Yosef" logo will no longer print after 2013. The link sends you to the page that has the article below, so the write-up is here.

The vintage Yosef logo will no longer print at the end of this year, at which time its contract will run out, said Patrick Meiberg of Appalachian's Office of Trademarks and Licensing.
This includes all forms of apparel with the corn cob pipe-accessorized Yosef, such as T-shirts, stickers and any other form of the logo, Meiberg said.
"They are obsessed with Yosef," said Katherine Smith, a senior social work major and employee at both Appalachian Sportswear and Appalachian Tees. "Anytime a customer walks in, they are always asking for the oldest Yosef. It sells really well – it's the best-seller overall."
Before the popular Mountaineer made its comeback, the fight to bring back the logo was long and enduring.
"It was a 14-year campaign to bring the vintage Yosef back on campus, and he will only be here for about two years," said Cassie Mason, an employee at the university bookstore.
Although the time the vintage Yosef will be legally allowed to show up on shirts and goods is "about two years," the time the copyright vaults will be locked is unsure, Mason said.
Mason said there will have to be a vote to bring the original Yosef back.
"I don't understand why they have to get rid of the oldest logo we have," said sophomore nursing major Nick Miller.
"It's a part of our schools history and heritage, something like that should be kept for all kinds of people to enjoy, not locked away," said sophomore history major Jack Davis.

That sucks. I bet he keeps making periodic comebacks. Kind of like the McRib.

Oh well, can't say I am disappointed. I'm no huge fan of the current Yosef logo but I wasn't a fan of the old one either. An old balding man with a pipe sticking out of his mouth isn't too flattering IMO.

Re: No More Vintage Yosef
So after watching the King Street shops sell Old Yosef logos, filing for trademark and sending cease and desist letters to those shops to sell the logo themselves, they sell it for two years (really one year publicly) and then announce they are going to sit on it while the demand grows again.
Well that's just rather daft.

Yeah, I don't get this one. Mothballing the most popular merchandising vehicle the school has just doesn't make a lot of sense. I guess somebody is upset that the old logo is immensely more popular than the new one.

Re: No More Vintage Yosef
That is likely the exact reason. The Block A is my favorite logo and is the only one that should ever be on our regular helmets but the old Yosef is so much better than the new one. Never bought a single piece of merchandise with the new Yosef logo and never will.appst89 wrote:Yeah, I don't get this one. Wonder who the Einstein was that made this decision? Going to write the Chancellor and find out exactly who has the power to decide what logo's the university uses. Like Mike I've never bought a piece of merchandise with that ridiculous Gorton's Fisherman on it.

Off topic, but NPR or a show on most NPR stations did a short piece on the McRib. It is not so much demand that brings it back but the price of pork. When the price is in a certain range the McRib reappears and when the price goes up it disappears.AppinVA wrote:That sucks. I bet he keeps making periodic comebacks. Kind of like the McRib.

Ha, that is the most accurate description I've ever seen of that logo!Kgfish wrote:Wonder who the Einstein was that made this decision? With as well as the old Yosef gear was selling, makes you wonder why they don't just keep the Block A as the primary logo and use that as the secondary.

I have a hat that has the Block A on the front and the floating head Yosef on the back. That's the only floating head Yosef I have on a piece of clothing.

I have never had one, but when I was listening to the story, I was thinking back to the line in Vacation when the brother-in-law mentions he is "not sure why it is called Hamburger Helper. It was fine without the Hamburger."AppinVA wrote:McLeansvilleAppFan wrote:Off topic, but NPR or a show on most NPR stations did a short piece on the McRib. I agree. Bock A all the way on the helmets. Now if we could just get the one on center court a the convocation center a little smaller

Re: No More Vintage Yosef
Another clue that we are moving up and the image wanted is the block "A" not Yosef.
