That's bad news. Thought maybe that was what firemoose was holding out on us,

Just WAIT. It takes time to get everything done and official. More things will be coming out soon enough. And most will be pleased.

Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but I dont see how getting the $&!@ kicked out of us year in and year out by the Clemsons and Georgias of the world will help us improve our brand. I’d like to see us win some games against the Vandys and Kentuckys to build our brand to the point that THEN we might stand a chance against the top tier teams every now and then. I know Im in the minority here with my opinion, but The yearly drubbings are getting old for me.LongTimeAppFan wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2018 10:00 amI would have loved to have a home and home...even a two for one but love that we a scheduling the one of the top programs in the country. We have to kept paying these games if we hope to improve our brand.
I really like that this is a drivable game. I will be there!

I agree. We are getting better talent, red shirting more freshmen, and getting much much more out of our strength and conditioning program than just 5 years ago. With more years in FBS, I think that we will be stronger across the board and more game ready for the types of competition that we will face.

Re: Clemson 2024
I respectfully disagree with your rationale. Building our brand has very little to do with our ability to contend with the big boys. Being competitive comes from building a culture of winning the right way.AppinATL wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2018 2:41 pmNot trying to be a Debbie Downer, but I dont see how getting the $&!@ kicked out of us year in and year out by the Clemsons and Georgias of the world will help us improve our brand. Re: Clemson 2024
That might be true regionally, but not on a national scale. 99% of the people who have heard of App outside of our footprint know us as the "small school that beat Michigan." Not the team that won 3 straight national titles, not even the team that's won its first 3 bowl games.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2018 3:51 pmI respectfully disagree with your rationale. Re: Clemson 2024
That's why I said most. I honestly don't believe there is a single statement that can be made on this board that everyone would be happy with. There is ALWAYS someone that won't be happy or satisfied, especially when we all know there are some on here that will take that path even if they don't actually agree with it, just to stir up trouble.
I honestly don't know why I keep coming back for more.

Re: Clemson 2024
I think we all agree we would love to play Wake every year. Schedule H&H's with Vandy, Duke, Kentucky and any other "bottom half P5" program. But the reality of the situation is we need a $1.5M+ game each year for the overall athletic program. AND those lower tier P5s aren't going to schedule a game against a top tier G5 for fear of losing. They schedule the lower tier G5s. Its the same reason why we schedule Savannah State and not NDSU, Furman, JMU, etc. as our FCS opponents.
I've said from the beginning, I don't have any knowledge of whats on tap for 2019, but I realize it's going to be a stadium with 70K+ seats and a top tier P5 for the math to work.

Re: Clemson 2024
I see your point and I agree with the premise. My point is that I don’t know that building our brand comes from beating the P5 bottom feeders. Kids want to come to play for championships and exposure. A winning culture takes care of the first thing, and playing against top talent in big time stadiums is alluring. Sure no one wants to lose. But do you think that those kids on the team would rather play in front of 90k at Georgia, or 30k against Kansas? I don’t mean to create an argument as I understand where the points come from. Mine is a bit different perspective and in no way makes one more right.NO.2 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2018 3:57 pmThat might be true regionally, but not on a national scale. 99% of the people who have heard of App outside of our footprint know us as the "small school that beat Michigan." Re: Clemson 2024
On a somewhat related note. We started looking into flights for the Penn St game in September. I realize that most will look at Philly and Pitts as destinations, but BWI was significantly cheaper and is even closer of a drive to State College than the two Penn cities.
