UNCC Hires New AD
" 1,
Didn't see that this had been mentioned on here yet. At Florida for a long time and some heavy hitters singing his praises. Was hopping they'd land someone less qualified.

And so do lots of other schools fans. It's why we so often see the "259 viewers online : : 25 registered, 4 hidden and 230 guests" lines at the bottom of the main page, for an example (currently it's 284. 48, 8, and 228). And why we move some things behind the wall in the Lodge.

That's yet to be seen. Doug Gillin was and is proving to be an amazing and inspiring hire. I think he has to go a long way to even approach what our AD has accomplished.

Re: UNCC Hires New AD
The bar at Charlotte is unbelievably low. Judy Rose was one of,if not the worst, athletic director in D1, no all, of college athletics. It’s amazing we started football under her, a sport she did not want. It takes a special talent to destroy a basketball program that from 1990 - 2005 was performing at a high level. It might take Mike Hill a few years, but this hire is transformative for Charlotte athletics. Would be fun to get our shit together and hate you guys instead of just accepting the inevitable loss.

Was surprised the other finalist wasn’t chosen, seemed more well rounded. Any insight to why he won out.
We’ve had a bad AD for a couple decades, enjoy the improvements.

Re: UNCC Hires New AD
I was lucky enough to be a part of the process and interviewed both of the candidates. While Estens resume did appear stronger once I spoke with each it became very clear that the line between them was razor thin. I felt it was 50/50 and really would go to whichever our Chancellor felt was the best fit. There was naturally some concern with his chapel hill under grad and his long stay at UF but those concerns appeared to be unfounded post interview.
If he can bring the Florida culture here, as he has said is the goal, then we hired the right guy.
To paint the picture for you we have the #5 budget in CUSA but our men’s basketball is #7 in funding and football is #11 in funding. Basically we put more money than we should in other sports (women’s). That has to stop.

Hill took less than a week before firing Fancher and the entire staff.

I hate this for Fancher's sake. He obviously stepped into a huge mess when he assumed the interim role. Best of luck to Fancher!
I bet Jason Capel is available to coach the 49ers! He has head coach experience and everything!
