A Polish Pope, A Man on the Moon, We think it’s time for Beer in Boone

Unread post by moonshine » Tue Mar 13, 2018 11:25 am

Did not see a post on the founder of Sollecito's Pizza who passed away last week.

I'm sure many on here remember "Mr. S" who "was one of the biggest boosters of ASU football and basketball" and "was instrumental in the movement to make alcohol available in Boone restaurants."

The article is dated 2013. Must be a reprint of the 5 year anniversary of his passing. I consider myself very lucky to have been in school while he was in business. Great pizza, live music and certainly appreciated his love for all things Appalachian!

I know some of the recent posts had been lost due to some tech issues with the server but I did not think we had lost 5 years worth of posts.

Well if we did lose 5 years worth of posts I can recap.

3 bowl wins in FB and softball took the series from ULM in game three in extra innings. Outside of that nothing else to report on.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

Man, I thought I was going crazy when I read the OP, glad I was not imagining things.

He was a good singer, too.

Thanks for posting. I finally understand what Jupiter Coyote was talking about. Great song.

Rode to the 1979 NCAA Basketball Regional , Bloomington Indiana , with Mr S to cheer on Bobby and the Apps in our first ever appearance. I loved the guy. Still do.

Loved Mr S. Ate many a great pie in the late 70's - mid 80's.

Listen to the first couple of verses. Props to Jupiter Coyote for mentioning Mr.Sollecito in their song.

Thanks for sharing. Loved Mr S and took my future wife there on one of our first dates. Was tapped on the shoulder by Mr S just as the article says. He was right, I am a lucky fella.

This is one time where I wish social media was around back then, so we could’ve gotten his singing on YouTube.
"Some people call me hillbilly. Some people call me mountain man. You can call me Appalachian. Appalachian's what I am."-- Del McCoury Band
