New NCAA Transfer Rules....WOW

Unread post by Rekdiver » Thu Jun 14, 2018 12:56 pm

Now, the NCAA’s Division I Committee on Academics is suggesting a rule change to allow players to transfer and not have to sit out a season if they have meet a grade-point average standard — likely between 3.0 and 3.3.

Any rules on taking fake classes to keep the GPA up. I hear some in state schools have some skill at this.

What's next, transfer during current season but before conference championship?
C'mon man.

To those whom may like this new ruling for APP. Realize, this could be used against the Appalachian roster like one and done is to college BB. A player such as Hennigan/Duck could leave after a great freshman season for UNC for higher profile draft hope. This rule change could hurt much more than help. And I have loved watching these two get back at teams that didn't recruit them.

They could also leave after their soph or junior years! The P5s have the votes to pass this garbage!

The "freedom to transfer rule" is a done deal! Adopted on Wednesday; effective in October!

I see nothing in that article that mentions dismissal of the 1 year of sitting out rule. It looks like this just greenlights recruitment only once a player has made it known that they intend to transfer.

Or we can use this to our advantage. When you have kids sitting at #4 or #5 on bench at Alabama or other big P5s that finally figure out they are not going to get any playing time they may find it appealing to come to App and get a better chance to play the remaining years of eligibility.

You have to pitch your advantage. It can cut both ways. There are only so many top P5 programs and they can only play 22 players (Off/Def) at a time.

We should just start making the rounds recruiting all the top P5's 2,3,4's players and see if any aren't getting enough playing time and want to become App Men.

So we are now recruiting solid B/C students, not academic all Americans to protect ourselves. Tell that professor the athletes need C+‘S not A’s as need him next year.

Listening to the radio, I think this new rule simply means the player can transfer anywhere they want. Coaches can no longer place restrictions on where they land. For example a player from GS could transfer to APP and there is nothing the coaching staff in Statesboro could do to stop that from happening. Also, from the description I heard the 1 year sit out rule is still in place.

That is is how I read it too. Player can transfer without current school’s permission but still have to sit one year.

This would eliminate situations like Sutton.

Conferences may still make rules against allowing transfers to go between member schools.

All that new rule does is essentially give the player the power to decide to transfer and not rely on the coach to approve it.
