There are a lot of similarities between us and them. The loss of some key performers opens the door for talented, yet unproven, untested players. It will be fun to watch these two teams develop through the season.

The calibre of athlete they are able to recruit is a factor.

This is a game that I refuse to just chalk up as a loss. We can play great and beat them. It will be tough. I hope to see us go the PSU and play well, let them know they played the Mountaineers and I want to see us constantly fight throughout the game with the confidence of a team that believes that victory can and will happen. It's gonna be interesting. If we can keep it close leading into the 4th qtr, you just never know.

We need to play a near perfect game and hope for a few things to fall our way but this game is certainly winnable. And by near perfect-turnovers that fabor us and few penalties and certainly none that turn 4th downs into 1st downs. That is doable for us.
Make FGs also.

Win or lose I do want to leave injury free as much as possible so we are in good shape for conference play and to be honest, the Charlotte game the next week.

Interesting to see their win probability % over us is equal to or lower than a few B10 opponents....

vs. App = 89%
vs. Rutgers = 89%
vs. Maryland = 92%
vs. Illinois = 93%

GO 'NEERS!

I wonder if that is based on pure talent or thinking that being the first game of the year it plays to us a bit being a bit more unknown.

Isn't that a goal for every game? I really hate when folks use that point every time we play a top 25 team as a justification for a loss before we even play the game. We all agree PSU will be a top 10 team and we will have to play a near flawless game and some guys will have to make some big plays to have a chance to win. I believe if we do that then it will be a game. That type of performance from our team will put pressure on PSU too. If we play at that level they will have to make some big plays to beat us. It is a winnable game.

Need to send them some gonja a few days before our game, maybe send some escorts, too. Throw them a pre-game celebration...

I think Connelly uses the projected S&P+ rankings to determine win probability. S&P+ is based on recent history, returning production, and recruiting. https://www.sbnation.com/college-footba ... rojections

S&P+ is a number nerds heaven. The first six or seven games of each season would be calculated on prior year S&P+ since there's not enough data for the current season until then. It takes some of the transitive thinking (A beat B; B beat C; A is better than C) out of the mix and focuses on things that are more measurable (e.g. - yards gained per first down play).

What does S&P+ stand for. It must have some meaning, or is it the obvious answer of Standard & Poor's and they are applying their analytics to college football?

It's "success rate" and "points per play". https://www.sbnation.com/college-footba ... s-rankings has the best explanation.

But that doesn't mean it's a bad idea 😉. Women weaken the legs.
