I like the Ruffin McNeil choice as well if forced to deal with Satt skeedaddling!
Ruffin is a defensive guy. But there is a chance that he stays awhile. Who is your choice for OC?

Last couple years of Ruffs recruiting at ECU were nightmares. Tons of academic issues, character problems, and JUCOs. While Montgomery may not be a good head coach, Ruffin left him with next to nothing to work with. He’s also a defensive guy and his ECU teams regularly gave up 60+ to Navy, definitely not who I want to play GASOU with at the helm. Please no.

Being reported that Houston has taken the ECU job. Not confirmed by any “big name accounts” yet.

That's not even close to accurate. The team he left was loaded with most everyone coming back and in Ruffs last year despite losing our starting QB with an ACL before the season was a highly competitive 5-7 with 4 losses by a TD or less including to ranked Florida and BYU on the road and they beat Virginia Tech. Hell Montgomery couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag and he still beat an NC State Bowl team with that talent. Any issues we had were exacerbated by Coach Mo and transition later and you can't blame Ruff for that. He left a good team and had shown the ability to rebuild.

We played at some of the highest paces in the nation which accounted for some of that and his last 3 years we only gave up about 25ppg each year which is very respectable when you run offenses like that and play the schedules we did those years. He had mostly addressed the previous issues we had by making a DC change. He wasn't so rigid he wouldn't make a change and he has an Air Raid Roledex of OC guys and was always committed to running it.

If Ruff wants your job I hope he gets it for the way we shafted him, but personally I hope he wants to stay at Oklahoma because it would be bad for us IMO even with Houston.

How would Ruff coming to Boone (BIG IF) be bad for ECU?

The biggest loss for Ruff at ECU was offensive savant Lincoln Riley.

Butch Jones was my second favorite after Mike Houston.

Butch was one of the hottest coaches in the country, until Tennessee.

Tennessee is probably the hardest coaching job in the country. The fans expect you to be 9-2 or 10-1 every year with lesser talent than Alabama, Georgia, Florida etc.

Kendal Briles at Houston could be a more realistic option.

I hate we didn’t at least get a shot at him, especially if Satt drops the bomb in the next day or so.

Well aware of how 2015 played out for you all. Go check his last 2-3 classes and see how many made it 4 years and/or were impact players, I’ve done it and it’s not good.

As for Navy they scored 56, 36, 76, and 45 in his last year on Ruffins defenses. Since our main rival runs the option, yeah I’m good on that. Ruff is a good man and Compher screwed up firing him but he’s not at all who I want out of this hire.

Keep him away. He was part of the rape culture at Baylor.

We do have an “assistant head coach” if that title means anything. He’s only coached high school outside of his time at App, though.
Very true. But he essentially a part of Brown’s defensive staff. How would it be received by Brown to now have to report to him?
Can't see Brown returning to App in that case.

Matt Viator at ULM, came from McNeese State is a good coach. Don’t know about recruiting in the Carolinas and Ga, but Jerry Moore overcame that issue.

After digging in a little on the "negatives" with Houston. I'm kind of glad he is off the table.

Also, we are worried about Satt taking the staff... We need to consider that there are a few members of the Louisville staff that were not Petrino guys that may be "strongly suggested" to Satt that he keeps/hires. He is about to step into a new world of college football.... Different environment with a lot of different pressures.

Agree with you. Suprised no one has mentioned him til now. He has kept ND State on top and he is 51 years old so this could be a final stop. He makes 300k which we could double and I would think even high school guys around our recruiting area know about ND State and what they have achieved so I think he could recruit well wihout knowing the area.He has a defensive background should we also lose Brown so he would need to bring a good offensive coordinator. Just don't know if he would be willing to move this far away.

Have I missed something? Has Satt actually interviewed, been offered, accepted a new position? This thread has quickly turned into a definite replacement topic.
