Why don't we

Unread post by appgrad95&97 » Mon Dec 03, 2018 3:26 pm

Schedule three SEC or ACC teams like MTSU did this year?

To save some of you time, I know scheduling is done years in advance and is complicated. And sure some are going to say some are "afraid" to play us. But UVA, VaTech, UNC, NCSU, Duke, Wake, USC, Clemson, UGA, GaTech, Tennessee and Vandy are in neighboring states.

I really don't buy the "afraid" to play us argument. That's an exaggeration of the actual situation which is that they don't want to play us because the risk / benefit isn't what they want. While we were FCS, there was absolutely no up side for major programs playing App because they knew it wasn't a "sure thing" but they were absolutely expected to win.

The good news is that, as our stock rises we will be viewed differently. We now compete at a higher level an actually help their SOS while providing a local game. I'm hoping to have more of these games in the future, but the fact it the other team has to want to play us.

DG is in talks with a lot of schools from last I heard from folks up on the mountain. We have deals that will be announced this off-season as always. I know at one point last year he was wanting Duke and some other P5 schools to schedule home and away series. I think he was also trying to extend deals with Wake Forest and some others to become a regular series. It will be interesting to see who all he comes up with.

And they can't all be on the road.

If I were AD I would try to schedule 2 P5 bottom feeders a year kinda like UCF has done. Scheduling Auburn and Clemson and finishing 9-2 does nothing for us. We need to go undefeated with 1 or 2 P5 wins to make the NY6 Bowl which is essentially our national G5 Championship at this point.

We already have home & homes scheduled with UNC, we will be playing South Carolina next year as well. Home & Home & neutral scheduled with ECU. Wisconsin and Wake forest in 2020. We do really well with scheduling P5 schools.

MTSU was at Vanderbilt, Georgia and Kentucky

Their only OOC home game was vs U Mass.

Only 5 home games.

MTSU does do a good job with scheduling. They have been FBS since 2000, so that helps. CUSA schools do a little better than Sun Belt schools in attracting P5s to play, so that helps too.

But overall, I think we're moving in that direction. Two P5 schools per year in 2019, 2020, and 2022. Just one in 2021, but it's still a pretty good slate with ECU and Marshall on there. And we've got wiggle room to add bigger teams in 2023 and beyond.

I like our scheduling. Wish we would do a better job in basketball.
