I guess he wouldn’t be bad, as long as he stays away from OL recruiting.
You mean the guy that coached Kendall Lamm, Colby Gossett and Parker Collins? Yeah… Keep him away from that side of the ball! 🙄
Dude is a mastermind as far as teaching and designing OL blocking. I did a little digging on his classes at App very quickly so I could have made a mistake but see attached and make your own mind up idc. I talk with people who know recruiting at the G5 level and they aggreed (while he was G5) now at State he has done an amazing job as those linemen fit exactly what he wants. P.S. If it is him I will support him as I would anyone we hire.

2012:
Greg Milhouse - played D then left team
Jamie Collmar- Didn’t play until Redshirt Junior then played 11 games, couldn’t find any stats about senior year (app site didn't have any)

2013:
Parker Collins- One of best ever
Beau Nunn- One of best ever
Colby Gossett- One of best ever

2014:
Chandler Greer- only played during grad year
Tobis-Edge Campbell- Backup moved around never really found field
Madison Malone- Backup 1 year then never played and left school
Owen Painter-Left School

2015:
Alex Taylor:Left school
Victor Johnson: One of best ever
Bo Alexander: Left School
Tyler Norris: Never Made it to school

Hearing Ledford missed on some recruits that are now big contributors to the team. I hope it was not just on him.....

Dwayne did a very good job at App and brings a lot to the table. He’s an overachiever, played in the NFL as I recall .Has experience with a larger program. He is also a local guy, growing up in McDowell County and has family there. My Wolfpack friends are very high on him , giving him alot of credit for their recent turnaround and interestingly mentioned the possibility of him coming back as HC last year. He knows our program, personnel and culture. He checks the boxes. Is he the best fit? I don’t know. We won’t know for a couple of years. I also don’t know if he is indeed our top candidate.

FYI on this thread - We still have coaches en route to do interviews for this job (Searels is interviewing tomorrow), so it is unlikely that any kind of official offer has been made or negotiations have begun.

Yes, that is what was surprising. I’m sure the weather has slowed down this process a little.

Biggest surprise is that I hear Horton has not even received a call...

I think the recruiting thing with Ledford is a fair criticism, but hardly a disqualifier. It’s not like he couldn’t bring in talent. He just had a type of frame he preferred and was probably too rigid in sticking with that.

He could change his view on that, or he could have an OL coach who casts a wider net (Clark, for instance).

2013 was a home run but the rest were not good at all.

My guess is that Gillin has Ivey, Ledford, and Bryan Brown as his top 3 initially but won't get Brown and then once he opens up and looks at others and truly hears from everyone who has been at App a while that he will open up his search though.

My guess is that Gillin has Ivey, Ledford, and Bryan Brown as his top 3. I expect him to lean towards someone who worked for Satterfield.
Speculation? Or.....

Brown is intriguing as that “high risk-high reward” hire due to his fiery personality and the growing trend to go with “young guns”. I think he clearly took our defense up a notch, but I don’t know if this merits a promotion to HC. I don’t see Ivey or Clark hanging around if they get passed over by one of the youngest guys either. I just don’t see it with Brown.

Ivey would be a “feel good” hire and we may catch lightning in a bottle if he rallies this young team. It sure would be a great story.

This bit about Ledford “missing” on some recruits that are now big contributors to this team makes me feel at odds because I do like a lot of boxes he would check......

I stated earlier that an extremely reliable source told me that Horton has not even been contacted to this point.

Speculation. My gut feeling is that Gillin is going to regard Ivey or Ledford very high but I still believe that if the firm and Gillin does their due diligence that it will be someone else.

Ivey has a similar path as Scott except he has not been in college as long. Scott coached HS like Ivey, walk-on like Ivey, played same time period, and Ivey would keep the team together.

Ledford has gotten a really good name while at NC State and people think he is HC material. Just wish his classes at App had been better. Recruiting in the ACC and SBC are two totally different things.

That does not shock me. I think Gillin wants someone who was at App sometime over the last 5 years.

How much direct recruiting would the HC so? Don’t the assistants do the leg work and he has final say?

I’d say it’s Ivey or Ledford. Both are good picks.

Usually the HC signs off on the offers. At Clemson their DC has 100% say on that side of the ball but you have to develop that trust with your HC. Scott wanted to meet the kids in person and sign off on the offers from what I was told.

We have to keep hitting on the under the radar guys.
