After all is said and done... do we break back into the top 25 in the final rankings?

There have to be a lot of Losses on Monday from teams who were unofficially 26-30. cyclones loss last night is a start. Army solidified their spot. Boise State may not fall since they didn't play (or lose) and the hell of that game is it looked like BC was the much better team until the weather killed it.

Unfortunately, I somewhat doubt it. Our game was early in bowl season, and we really needed teams like Utah State and Army to lose (or at least not win SO convincingly).

anytime you are depending upon the number of teams to lose that would need to lose its not a good scenario. Utah State's losses are marginally better than ours so they probably will sneak in.

The best we can hope for is finishing unofficially in the top 30 and maybe a pre-season Top 25 for 2019.

We’ll be 27th or 28th depending on losses at this rate.

Top quarter of FBS not too shabby.

This. By playing so early our game won't register with a lot of voters. Also, I don't see enough of the teams ahead of us losing.

Not getting to play Southern Miss hurt a top 25 effort. With a W there I think it would have balanced the loss to GS. While I believe we had a really good team I have to admit there are a bunch of really good 3 loss teams out there that I'm not sure we should be ranked over with our schedule. Being a good team doesn't matter as much if you barely get to play anyone of consequence. Then to have a bowl game against an 8-6 middle tn, regardless of their conference schedule, who lost their conf champ game and only beat uncc by 1 touch down, that doesn't help our resume.

Iowa State losing helps. We need Pitt and VTech to win today and N.C. State to lose on Monday. If that happens, think we creep in.

We need a lot of help. I fully expect we finish in the Top 28 which would be a great jump start for next year.

Probably not Top 25, but definitely Top 30. Excited for next year!

I laid it out in another thread but with some results in here is how it looks for sure.

Utah State and Army both winning so convincingly hurt us. That means we have a narrow path to getting in so the chance is not very good as of today. Iowa State did lose, which helps.

Our odds are not good and our best shot is to be 25. We are 30 and 31 in the polls right now. We need all of these to go our way and even then it is maybe 50/50.

Cincinnati vs Virginia Tech- We need VT to beat Cincy for sure. Cincy wins and we have no shot. A loss by Cincy of any margin and it is huge for us.
Michigan St vs Oregon- Not sure either way helps a lot. If MSU wins they may vault us or get close but I think Oregon losing probably helps just a little more.
Missouri vs Oklahoma St- Need Oklahoma St to win but not by 20 or so. Needs to be close.
Northwestern vs Utah- Need Utah to win and the bigger the margin the better so it makes NW look bad.
NC State vs Texas A&M- We need Texas A&M to win. If NC State wins they will just pass us in the ratings. I think as long as NC State losses it helps but would help for say a 7-10 point win and to be clear the Aggies are better.
Miss St vs Iowa- We need Miss St to win or else Iowa will likely pass us
Stanford vs Pittsburgh- Pitt needs to win a close one for sure. If they win big they may take some votes from us. So we need Pittsburgh to win a close one.

It would also be good if Penn State wins to help our strength of schedule more. It won't effect our ranking but just looks better.

In the coaches poll it looks like NW could be only one to drop out because if any others lose then we probably get bypassed. If NC State, Cincinnati, and Missouri all lose then we could get in at 25 since Iowa State is going to drop out.

In the AP poll if Missouri and Iowa State both drop out then NW, NC State, Cincinnati, and Stanford all must lose and then we could sneak in along with Utah State and we would probably be 25.

We are 30 and 31 now. As I laid out the odds of getting in the top 25 are not good but look at the other G5 teams and it would not shock me if we finish 27-28 and then start next year at 23-26 range. Part of me hopes we don't start ranked and get in the week we play UNC. I just hope our team stays focused and does not lay an egg if it happens again. If we lose just 1 game next year, before South Carolina, it won't happen. Coming from a G5 not considered as good as AAC or MWC we really need to win out.

Just look at the impact of the GSU loss this year. Had we beat them by any margin we would be talking about whether we should be ranked in the top 15 and likely would be 17-20 range right now. Because of that one loss we are 30 and 31 and we need a ton of help to have any shot to be ranked 25 right now. We have no margin for error and honestly we should not be given one. If we can't sweep the SBC then we really should not be ranked.

How Texas A&M, Michigan State, Stanford, Virginia Tech, etc. fares, has a factor in the final outcome of our season.

Yup and they should. They factor because a good win over a P5 ranked team by another P5 team will bypass a blowout win over the 2nd best team in the 2nd worst FBS conference. We would have gotten more respect by beating Wake Forest by 7-10 in a bowl than beating MTSU by 25-30. Just how it is and it really should be.

I don’t disagree, but that’s not my point. This is football royalty, and we are in the discussion with them. I think that’s awfully damn cool.

As a fan it is cool but the landscape is changing. Be serious on this one. If we played any of those teams do you feel it is a guarantee they beat us or do you think any of them would beat us by 20 or more? My answer to both of those is no. I think we could beat them if we play our A game. I really wish we had VT on the schedule next year because it would look good on paper to beat them but I really think we could.

Anything could happen but I do believe there are about 10 teams who have superior talent to us but outside of that I do agree we could hang with and beat anyone else out there. Look at the MWC becoming almost a 6th team in the Power rankings by having 3 teams ranked all the time and 5 total you will see receiving votes in a year. The MWC, UCF, and App are all certainly changing some things. We are probably the 4th-5th best team in the G5 level right now and I don't think anyone but UCF would beat us for sure. It has been a quick rise but I hope we are not done. I really want to see 13-0 and ranked in the top 25 majority or all of the year next year.

I’m quite aware that if “if’s” and “buts” were candy and nuts.... but imagine how high we would have climbed if not for that abomination in Gnatsboro.
