Agree! Everyone is trying to be mister humble in here it seems. We are as good as any team outside of the top ten and we would give ALL of the top ten a run for their money on any given Saturday.

The “ Mini Dump”. Anyway I’m happy where we’ve landed, not content, but pretty happy. Next year we can break through and set a new standard.

Not knocking Bum. Loved the energy around the Oilers at the time and Earl Cambell just a pinch between the cheek and gum commercial.
He just never delivered on the kicking the door in. Kind of shows how hard it is to do. He was a great coach and personality of that time.
He was for sure. Unfortunately for him, the “door”was actually a Steel Curtain.

2 more bowls and a championship left on this entire season of FBS. Can't wait until next season.

No way that Washington can be ranked #9 - no pass game - they're terrible!

4 losses in the SEC is equal to 1 loss in the SBC. Just how it is. I have no doubt that we could play Kentucky and Miss State close but I don't think we would beat them and I actually do think we would lose to Utah State and Fresno State. I do think Cincinnati will be ranked but I don't think they should be. After UCF I don't think the AAC has a top 30 team this year.

Let's not get cocky. We are good but the difference in us and the top 10-15 teams is when Zac Thomas goes down we lose by 25 to a SBC team or if we lost 3 starters on front 7 we would be thin but these teams all have a 4 star or 5 star behind the guy who is starting. We don't quite have that depth yet. Could we compete with teams in the 15-25 range? Sure. We could probably beat a couple of them but we would not be close with Clemson or Ohio State. Penn State lost to a Kentucky team that is about 15-20 range today and we lost to Penn State. I know we could have won but we did not. This year we are a 22-30 type team. 22 on a great day and 30-35 on a bad day. Next year we should most definitely be a top 20 team all day every day though.

It would be pretty hard to assemble any kind of credible top 25 without any four-loss teams. Hard to argue that there are 25 teams better than Texas A&M, for example. But there are some I wouldn’t mind a shot at.
Just to revisit this, and maybe the comment wasn't meant to apply after all the bowl games, but only 22 teams finished the season with three or fewer losses.

FWIW, we're one of 12 with two or fewer losses. (And likely the only one who'll finish the season unranked.)

True, although I think Troy would have to be ahead of GS.

I'll only comment on the AP poll since it is the only one that matters.

4 of the teams ranked 18-25 in the last poll lost their bowl games to unranked teams, and of those 4 unranked winners, only 1 received votes in the last poll (Iowa with 4).

4 of the five unranked teams who received more votes than us in the last poll won their bowl games....one, Stanford, barely beat Pittsburgh...a 7-7 team who got no votes in the final poll. Another, NC State, got blown out by the number 21 team.

I see us at 26, with an outside chance at 25, in the final AP poll.

The entire ranking system is mostly stupid. Outside of the cut and dried top 4 or so it becomes speculative at best. The comment that 4 SEC losses is better than one SB loss is debatable. I am not delusional as a fan and don’t remotely believe we would stand a chance with Alabama-Clemson or even a few of the top dogs. Why is that always the measuring stick? In my mind we are AMONG the best 25 teams, this season, in college football. Who really knows who the number 21 team is?? My eye test says among the best 25. I’m good with that.

It's not just winning or losing games that matter. I recall one of the AP voters that voted us in the Top 25 said he did so because we were winning big over who we were playing, coupled with the close loss at Penn St.
The AP votes are subjective and I'd love to think that consideration would be given to our team for that domination of senior-laden MTSU even with our top 3 coaches leaving two weeks prior to the game. I realize that I'm the resident optimist on this board but, I agree, we're going to be right at 25, if not at #25.

Totally agree. For me personally if we are considered by many to be one of the best 30 teams in the country that is what, top 25% percentile? There are 129 current FBS teams and one transitioniional so even if we are voted #30 that means we are better than 100 others at our level. My lord that’s awesome. I often think what it must be like to be an alum or fan of a team who is traditionally horrible. Can’t imagine.

Ouch but true. I think that the main reason why we are all sad the day after the inevitable bowl win is that, for the most part, truly competitive App State sports end and don’t resume until the following September. No offense to track.
