Re: App State hires Ted Roof as defensive coordinator
still don't understand wanting the input of a former HC who went 6-45 (2 of the wins were as interim) for giving a new HC advice. His previous HC experience shouldn't be a factor of getting the job. Are his DC Skills the right fit for Apps Defense? Apparently coach Drink thinks so, and I will trust him on that, but his HC experience shouldn't factor in the decision to hire him

Re: App State hires Ted Roof as defensive coordinator
I'm trusting Coach Drink to make the hires. Its his job on the line if we don't perform. Only time will tell if Roof is the right hire or not. As for his Head Coach experience, I have always believed in the statement 'we learn from our mistakes". Hopefully over the years Coach Roof has done jus that. I imagine if he looked back on his time at Duke there are things he would do differently now. So, here's to Coach Drink and the entire staff in hopes that they will move our program forward in all aspects.

Re: App State hires Ted Roof as defensive coordinator
There are tons of things that Roof can help with regarding advice for a first time coach and many of those things have nothing to do with game-week prep or game-day management. Roof has a lot of experience and intangibles that Drink may find invaluable. The Rock wrote: ↑Mon Jan 07, 2019 8:01 amstill don't understand wanting the input of a former HC who went 6-45 (2 of the wins were as interim) for giving a new HC advice. As an aside - in the modern era of football, Duke has had two successful head coaches - Spurrier and Cutcliffe. I don't believe that all the others who tried were bad coaches, it just takes a great head coach to win there. We'll see what happens; but, I'm optimistic in nature and look forward to next season.

A very in depth analysis of DC Roof from the 247 site. As always ASM offers a nice objective view of the hire.

Hmmm. This hire ought to be good for at least 20 pages of posts.

Re: App State hires Ted Roof as defensive coordinator
We won't truly know until spring practice.
It makes a huge difference. We are built for a 3-4 defense. Our linebackers and defensive linemen are smaller and faster than those typically on a 4-3 defense.

Planning on using a 3-4 according to this Democrat article.
