Drink and Doug have put together one hell of a coaching staff. I can't believe we got some of these guys. They all know how to win and develop players into champions...it's gonna be a fun ride for sure.

Pat Washington's past players include Jordy Nelson, Peerless Price, Donte Stallworth, Robert Meachem, and Hayden Hurst (TE). Not sure if mentioned here, yet. He was TE's coach at SC, but most of his career is as WR's coach and appears to have been successful at most WR coaching positions.

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
So who is going to be the "hype" guy on this staff?
There needs to be a coach who fires everyone up. Iron Mike, and Coach Ivey and Brown seemed to be that guy in the previous staff.
I don't see Coach Drink as that, nor Roof. Not a knock on either of them, you can tell if someone is faking it. They just don't seem like the type. So who is it going to be next year?
Maybe Clark, Wyatt, or Harbinson?

Seems I recall Gasparato doing that in one of the clips from the bowl game. The Rock wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 4:14 pmSo who is going to be the "hype" guy on this staff?

And these guys are recruiting some studs as well. Two huge OLs of the future just this week. It says a lot about the state of our program when we can take the hits we took and reload like we have.

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
In my opinion one of the biggest differences between Coach Drink and Coach Satt is their mindset. Satterfield left App to go to a Top 25 program. Coach Drink came to coach at App because he knows that App already is a Top 25 Program. In fact, that was one of the first things he said during his first press conference.

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
Well, when Satterfield came back to App we WEREN'T a top 25 program. I'm excited about Coach Drink and I believe we have some good times ahead but people are setting themselves up for disappointment (again) if they believe that Coach Drink isn't going to pursue a $3 million opportunity if and when that happens. Satterfield never claimed that he planned to retire at App. That doesn't diminish his love for our (and his) alma mater in the least. Drink isn't making that promise either, by the way. How bout we don't put try to paint boundaries around our coaches and let's just enjoy them while they're here.appaneer1984 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 01, 2019 8:41 amIn my opinion one of the biggest differences between Coach Drink and Coach Satt is their mindset. Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
One thing to remember is that Scott Satterfield is an alumni, which translates into alumni dollars, so the more he makes somewhere else, the more he can contribute to his alma mater. Nothing lasts forever, the best you can do in life is enjoyed where you are while you are there.

Drink has been on the job less than 2 months. I do have great expectations and am pleased with what I've seen so far but let's not over sell what he can accomplish before he's coached his first game. Frankly, I don't get the need to compare coaches or diminish what Satt accomplished.

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
Satterfield left App to be a HC at a struggling P5 program and build it back up to a top 25 program. Coach Drink left a P5 OC position to be a head coach at App. Both men took the next step in advancing their careers, so I would argue they have a similar mindset.appaneer1984 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 01, 2019 8:41 amIn my opinion one of the biggest differences between Coach Drink and Coach Satt is their mindset. I completely agree with you Hap... it is exciting to see the staff he put together with a good mix of young coaches and experienced ones.... and it appears the recruiting hasn’t dropped off either. However, let’s see how he and the team do when the bullets are firing.

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
Coaching turnover is painful when the one leaving is a beloved alum who has achieved a high level of success. That being said, turnover (over time) can be a good thing for a program. I think App has done amazingly well in the past by hiring alums and insiders, but there will come a time when we reach our ceiling with that approach and the only (or at least the most likely) way to extend the ceiling will be with new blood. All indications are that we are doing exactly that and things are very positive. App fans have nothing to complain about where football is concerned.
