Well I started this thread....am still recovering... and have yet to see a serious reply. As for ZT I honestly see a little more development and the fella could play under Sean Payton.

The opportunity for improvement from last year is more on the OL than at QB. Our red zone offense struggled at times when we didn't have the room to spread things out. I'm not saying that to be critical of the OL. They were re-building and I do believe there will be marked improvement this year. I am really excited about the recruits we've signed on the OL and I think our depth will be better. When the OL plays well, the QB will shine so I am expecting ZT to have an outstanding 2019. That's my thinking.

To be more specific, I actually expect Zac to have few rushing TDs and yards because I don't think he will HAVE to run as often. I think his passing performance will be significantly up because of the improved OL, another years development for him and receivers and the Coaching philosophy changes.

To answer your original question, there hasn’t been much to report. The first two practices were closed and didn’t amount to much more than getting the juices flowing again. They are off this week and come back read to go in pads. I wouldn’t expect much out of camp news unless someone gets injured. Will probably get a lot of rah rah talk to get the masses fired up.

Will tailgating be allowed for the Spring game on March 30? I know it’s at 10:00 in the morning, but.....

How cool would a tailgating 101 class in Champions lot be prior to the spring game? Menu planning, grilling, mixology, arrival/departure protocol. So many things to practice.

We will also have a true red zone banger in the lining up the backfield.#6

It doesn't matter if it's allowed, it'll happen regardless.

13-0. That's the problem with inter-squad competitions. Is their offense bad or their defense really good? Honestly, I'm not too worried. I know they'll be dangerous (as always) but if App plays our game, we should be in control. That's my totally biased / homer 2 cents.

They'd better be ready to go, or they could easily start 0-3 (at LSU, at Minnesota, Maine at home).
I'm not worried about our offense against them, and I'm looking forward to getting a glimpse of it on March 30. Go APP!

Good article on yesterday’s practice.
Sounds like a lot is changing. Not necessarily for the worse, but it does sound like we are going to need some time to get everything the way Coach Drink wants it.

I think that the needed time is expected regardless of the situation. The problem is that we live in a society that is becoming more and more impatient by the day.

Drinkwitz, a former offensive coordinator at Arkansas State (co-OC in 2013), Boise State (2015) and N.C. State (2016-2018), said that every situation is different. He felt that the Wolfpack was comfortable in his system by the start of his second year, and maybe even by the last couple of games in 2016.
“Every situation is different,” Drinkwitz said. “I mean, Year One of Arkansas State, we won the conference championship. Year One at Boise State, we won the Fiesta Bowl.
Bit confused, Boise State won the Fiesta Bowl in 2014 when Drink was the TE coach. In 2015 when he was OC/QB, Boise won the Poinsettia Bowl v. N. Illinois.

How the hell did Werts go 6 for 6 passing? They must have all been 1 yrd outs!

Exactly. Last year they has a ridiculous percentage of TD passes to attempts but it was because they only threw the ball on busted plays when the receiver was wide open and the defender was on the ground.

I think we will see a much more dynamic offense this year. We will see more passing than we have seen in some time and Zac is certainly capable of putting up crazy numbers. What I think hurt him last year was getting hurt and Satt’s style of playing a much more conservative/controlled offense where “big shots” were strategic versus plentiful. As the year progressed, Zac struggled with confidence (my opinion) and was not throwing as freely as he seemed to had been against PSU and Harrisburg. I think this is a natural reaction from a young QB in this situation where there is a sense of having more riding on a big pass because they are few and far between. In the Penn State game, it was “House money” and he was throwing darts,
I see Drink taking more chances in the pass game and making Zac feel like it is OK to have a few misses since we are going to try and be more of a scoring offense versus one that leans on ball control and defense. What will be awesome is if our defense plays at the level they did last year and our offense is high octane. Drink has plenty of time to mold this squad to fit his philosophy, and I expect the finished product to be special.

So what is your time table to define the finished product? End of fall camp, end of the season? I don’t think that we will struggle mightily in the first year, but I don’t see us lighting up the scoreboard either. New playbook, philosophy and verbiage will lead to some teachable moments throughout the first season.

These guys will have the playbook all summer and put in a tremendous amount of hours learning them. If everyone approaches the offseason like Sutton does the learning curve come September won't be tough.
