Re: Fox fired
Lutz was the ideal choice when we canned Houston Fancher. He was out of work too and needed a job then but for some reason Prince Charlie Cobb decided to try his little experiment with Capel. Now, nine years later, the Lutz train is in the depot and might never run on the tracks again. I say let it stay in the depot.

OK, out with it Bobby Lutz. Try using your given name if you want to be believed.postalapp90 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2019 2:48 pmFor those of you that wanted him I know that Bobby Lutz is interested
Just when did you change your mind? Let me remind you of what you've been telling the little papers in Denver and around Lake Norman--and what you've been telling the print and electronic media in Charlotte.
Note...for anyone who read this in another thread today, please disregard this version.

I’m growing impatient too, but I was talking to Big C the other day and he brought up a few interesting points. Any potential new coach is still coaching. Most leagues are still in their conference tournaments. Gillen probably wants to limit the amount of time in which we have no head coach to avoid transfers as much as we can.
But I don’t think him being in NoLa for the women is a factor. He can work remotely on the men’s team and I’m sure he is.
Not the case if Bobby Lutz is begging to coach here as was stated in another thread about this.
But I'm sure other candidates will be interviewed that we may well be waiting on to finish their seasons.[/quote]
The Bobby Lutz "thing" is fake news. We've already had a posting of a published article in which Lutz was quoted as saying that he's retired and will not coach again.
Now if DG gets involved and mutual interest evolves from out-of-no-where, we could do a lot worse. I would hasten to point out that Lutz resides at LKN, and the weather differences are extreme at least five months a year. Another factoid is that Lutz is already 65. Not sure either party will get into a discussion outside of an agent v. university legal counsel...if that.

Re: Fox fired
Lutz publicly turned down App in 2014, then things went south for him at NC State. And I don't think he wants to coach in college again.

Re: Fox fired
Fox did a great job in fixing a lot of the problems He-who-must-not-be-named put us in. Unfortunately Fox has taken us as far as he can. Good luck in your future endeavors, Coach.

Re: Fox fired
Just to be clear, I never said Lutz had interest here and certainly don't have inside knowledge.
I was just referring to the whole thread devoted to that topic from someone claiming to have inside knowledge.
I wouldn't mind if it was him, but there are also lots of other great choices out there. I know DG will bring in someone who will get us all excited about App BB again

Re: Fox fired
I lived in Charlotte while he was at uncc during the latter half of his tenure. When sports would come on the news he struck me as a complainer, finger-pointer and someone who underperformed recruiting and with results on the court.
Yeah they went to the NCAA’s, but if I recall correctly, they went to NCAA’s early in his tenure in a multiple bud league. However, once the team was full of his recruits the slide began.

Re: Fox fired
I think salary is important to note here for the next hire.
I’ll probably need someone to provide factual accuracy of past salaries, but our budget for this position is typically in that $150-250k range and nothing to me suggests that it’ll be anything substantially different than that.
As great as it would be to have a look at Brad Brownell or Shaka Smart (pending their removals), it’s not realistic to expect App to attract a coach coming off a multi million dollar salary.
I imagine our candidate pool will consist of well regarded assistants at select power five and mid major programs. Just a guess though. For a relevant reference point, UNCW hired CB McGrath away from UNC a couple years ago at $300,000k per year.

Coach Fox is a good man and I wish him well. Excited to see who DG can get. Other programs have risen from the ashes. Why not us? Why not now? Go App Basketball.

Re: Fox fired
A choice is upon DG... Either INVEST in Men's basketball program or be content with the program losing between $1 and $1.5 MILLION a year when it should be one that produces a good revenue stream... Then say "we can't afford it".... Folks, my opinion here, we can't afford NOT to invest in it.
