Re: Fox fired
That makes no sense whatsoever considering the talent has improved practically every year.Arsenal App wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2019 2:12 pmConsidering our record the past five years, the fact that he's recruited many of our players could also be a good argument for not retaining Allison.

Re: Fox fired
But the record didn't improve. That's the first thing they'll look at regarding Allison. In other words, the record says that the talent didn't improve no matter what the analysts say.fjblair wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2019 5:08 pmThat makes no sense whatsoever considering the talent has improved practically every year.Arsenal App wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2019 2:12 pmConsidering our record the past five years, the fact that he's recruited many of our players could also be a good argument for not retaining Allison.

This. I think there are a few of us that are overrating our talent.
If coaching was the problem and had nothing to do with the talent then Allison staying would be counter productive given that he’s part of the coaching staff.
The entire staff needs a refresh imo. Bring in a fresh perspective all the way around.

Re: Fox fired
I think it’s more complex than simply evaluating the talent we recruit and the records. We’ve got good sun belt talent without relying on jucos like most of the conference. It’s a matter of finding guys that fit the system and culture (which seems to have degraded in the last couple years). We can’t recruit the types of players that Davidson recruits because they are a very different institution/culture. As far as Allison not being qualified because of our record with him as an assistant, at least one member of this board has mentioned that Fox didn’t allow much input from his assistants, which might have partly led to the departure of 2 assistants last summer. I’m not sure how much truth there is to that or if it’s just speculation.AppHoops wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2019 6:08 pmArsenal App wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2019 5:12 pmBut the record didn't improve. I think Brant overrates Shaver a bit. He had a Fancher-esque record at W&M over a longer time.

Re: Fox fired
Just wondering why you're so enthralled with ACC "has been" types? Two are retired, journeyman players. Blakeney's a journeyman college assistant coach, now at his eighth stop (if ya count his two separate stops at Delaware). Ninth if you count his gig with Under Armour. I don't think Blakeney's head coaching material. I mean he's had 24 years with the Duke pedigree to make it and no takers. Even if I'm seeing his coaching cred wrong, I don't see him leaving the Ivy for the Sun Belt anytime soon. Fuller does have some analytics skills, but he's no head coaching prospect.

Re: Fox fired
The talent got better but not the record. Exactly. That’s why the HC change. Would be a huge mistake to not keep Allison on staff.

Re: Fox fired
Go check the record from this season and look how many close games the team lead or was neck and neck in until the last 3-4 minutes and ended up losing. That’s certainly not a talent problem that’s a coaching/play calling/strategy problem.

Re: Fox fired
I’m sure Nate James would have many opportunities to coach at a higher level when he wants. Duke assistants go to high major conferences when they decide to leave. Moton was thrown around as a possibility in 2014 after having the most successful season in NCCU history and maybe in MEAC history, but we beat his team with Fox as our coach this year.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2019 7:32 pmI think Brant overrates Shaver a bit. Re: Fox fired
Off that list Nate James sounds promising, but not sure how realistic that is...
The others listed.... yeah, no thanks.

Re: Fox fired
Why would Nate James come to App St? He probably makes more money as a Duke assistant coach. Also no more former Tar Holes either. Jason Capel did enough damage to our basketball program and they’re known as UNC-CHeat for a reason.

Re: Fox fired
These coaches mentioned ain't coming unless the $$ are enticing, which they ain't. Maybe somebody like Figger at Austin Peay or Kerns at Presbyterian. And look at those whose have had great success at smaller levels, D1AA, D3, or those who have had a long run of high school success at big schools.

Re: Fox fired
Some of the big talkers are saying Andy Kennedy or Pitino to UNLV, do't know what all that is based on. Ed Conroy, formerly of Tulane and The Citadel is an assistant waiting on another head job.
