Why would Conroy be desirable?Cro-Magnon App wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2019 9:09 pmSome of the big talkers are saying Andy Kennedy or Pitino to UNLV, do't know what all that is based on. Ed Conroy, formerly of Tulane and The Citadel is an assistant waiting on another head job.

Conroy's not ideal in my opinion. He's a good guy and a capable coach, but his recruiting was an issue at Tulane. I don't recall who his assistants were there. He was high on Cobb's shortlist a couple of days before Buzz agreed to return for his one-year "curtain call." Conroy spent a day on campus meeting folks and checking out a few realtors. Then *boom* Buzz called. The rest of the story is...Conroy to Tulane...Buzz to UNC-W and the Cobb-Capel-caper!
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!

Re: Fox fired
I would think that whatever new HC is hired will be given the opportunity to interview the current staff and retain anyone who is beneficial. Ultimately, isn't it usually part of the deal for a new coach to build his staff? I'm sure DG will provide input but I hope he wouldn't micro-manage the process. Micro-managers tend to kill energy and spoil attitudes. That's not the way to build a program.

On paper, this incoming class could be our best in a while. Allison is working hard to keep them in tact. I would hope the next guy would seriously considering keep him on board if he wants to stay.

Interesting to see the praise Levelle has received from a few of the most successful coaches in sports. Hoping he gets a serious look.

I don't see Moton having success outside of NCCU. He has a special thing there, being his alma mater and all. HBCU's situations are very different than ours.
Fun fact: he coached my wife in basketball when she was a kid in Raleigh.

Re: Fox fired
I’ve heard that argument but it just doesn’t ring true to me. If you can coach basketball it doesn’t matter where you’re at to do it. And while it wouldn’t be by much more than what he’s got at NCCU, I’d love to see what he could do with a bit more resources.
I am curious though, how are HBCUs different than us other than the obvious?

Re: Fox fired
Not endorsing anyone but I could see Moton being successful here. It’s obvious that this is a super important hire for us. Gotta get it right. Who knows, though, what DG is looking for in a coach? He will do what is best for the program. Excited about the future.

Re: Fox fired
If Moton's team displays solid fundamentals and he shows the ability to manage games and execute effective strategy, I don't see why he wouldn't be effective at App. I'm sure DG will look at a variety of qualified applicants.

We don't know about Drinkwitz yet. He hasn't coached a game for us yet. His credentials are good, but still.sixtoes9134 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2019 2:59 pmI really expect DG to pull a rabbit out of the hat like he did with Drink.

Re: Fox fired
What I meant by that was that everyone thought it was going to be Ledford or that Alabama guy, but we got Ledfords boss. Which was a pleasant surprise in my opinion. I'm hoping for a better hire than we thought was possible.NewApp wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2019 3:03 pmWe don't know about Drinkwitz yet. He hasn't coached a game for us yet. Re: Fox fired
I think there’s some reason to be optimistic about our team going forward under a solid head coach.Mainly because the Sunbelt isn’t very good. I believe there’s room at the top.

Agree with you Stonewall. Think about it...Corn Cobbs Panthers are the Sunbelt standard bearers for the past 2 years.

The meac is not a hotbed for coaches. Gonzo is right. I want a taskmaster as our next coach. I am so sick of hero ball with not hero ball players. I submit liberty. If we field a team that plays defense and runs and Efficient offense, Ala uva. We will dominate the sun belt
