Ethan Joyce released 10 names of *potential* candidates, or people he thinks we should call. Well 9, and our beloved Matt McMahon (who we all want, but also know he ain’t coming). Most of these names have been mentioned here.

1. Tim Craft (G-W)
2. Bart Lundy (Queens)
3. Kevin McGeehan (Campbell)
4. Levels Moton (NCCU)
5. Josh Schertz (LMU)
6. Nate James (Duke Asst.)
7. Joel Justus (UK Asst.)
8. Takayo Siddle (NCSU Asst.)
9. Bobby Lutz
10. Matt McMahon

Not a fan of McGeehan

Not yet convinced by Moton or Craft, but good potential.

Matt is obvious 1st choice, but Mr. Cobb blew that one.

My top choices would be Schertz or Lundy. Nate James would be great, but I really think we need a coach with HC experience.

Dont know anything about Justus or Siddle, but I think this is a promising list. GO APPS!!
If Justus were to get the job, that would be 2 guys App will have hired as coaches that I grew up playing youth league b-ball against. The other was Capel. I used to shut Joel down!

Landry Kosmalski ?
Don't quit your day job.
I'm not pitching him Jack , but it's a name I've heard in relation to the job.
https://swarthmoreathletics.com/staff.aspx?staff=22

Seems to be a teacher of the game. That would be a nice change over the past 19 years. Also, see below:

2012-13 Swarthmore 7-18 .280
2013-14 Swarthmore 8-17 .320
2014-15 Swarthmore 11-14 .440
2015-16 Swarthmore 22-8 .733
2016-17 Swarthmore 23-6 .793
2017-18 Swarthmore 25-6 .806
Interesting , one heck of a turnaround job.

And sustained the success after he got them there. One knock against him is that he's a former Davidson assistant.

so, is McKillop pushing for another one of his cronies to take a job that his last one didn't succeed in?

Kosmalski is probably a good candidate to replace McKillop when the time comes.

Definitely NOT a fan of Buzz Peterson because of where he played in college and the fact that he screwed us over. I will say, however, that we had some of our best years under him. Wonder how much more our program could have grown if he had stayed around for 5 - 10 years. Hopefully we can land a new HC that has equal or better abilities. As far as him ever coaching here again, that would be a huge NO! He would not come back to Boone anyway so that is a moot point.

The more names I see, the more I think I prefer someone from the "former HC who's won at a mid-major before getting fired from a power school" pool. I'll include Lutz in that even though he doesn't technically fit the description.

It's true there are plenty of good assistants and D2 coaches out there. But if it were that easy to pick the ones who can succeed as a D1 HC, everyone would do it. I just feel like a lower-risk hire might be the way to go after so many years of futility.

Just seems pretty silly to not hire a guy because he has Davidson on the resume. We’re in no position to shrink the applicant pool over something so trivial.

Kevin Stallings, Kim Anderson, Seth Greenberg, Mark Fox. Those are four who would appear to fit (or come close to fitting) the criteria you mention. I actually feel one of them is being seriously considered for the job given Gillen's background.

I wouldn't say Anderson fits (and if I'm reading you right, maybe he's the one you think we're considering?). Failed spectacularly in his only D1 opportunity.

The others, yes. I'd personally have varying levels of interest in them. Greenberg seems like a longshot - I'd guess he's enjoying the high-pay/low-pressure ESPN life, and if he wanted to coach again, he could probably have landed a moderately more prominent gig than ours by now. But I don't know for sure.

When did you play against Capel? I played against him my senior year when he was an 8th grader playing on the Greensboro Day varsity. Ah the good old days in the NCISAA.

FWIW, a lot of the Tech folks I know were not Greenberg fans. I heard him this morning on Sirius talking about how much he loves what he is doing now. Though there was a sense that on one level he misses coaching.

Greenberg would be awesome, he was a good, not great coach, but he's well known due to his commentating with Jay Williams and Bilbo, and would probably bring in solid talent comparable to the SunBelt. That being said, he ain't coming here.

Who wants Buzz Peterson back??
As Meatloaf would say,” I would do anything for a winner, but I won’t do that”
Alright! Seems that the feeling is mutual, App fans. It has been confirmed that App would never offer and Buzz could never accept and remain married. App wins-Buzz loses!

As Jan Peterson would say, "I would go anywhere and do almost anything...ANYTHING...for attention, fortune and fame but I won't reside in that freakin' backwoods Boone town ever again!"

This "arrogance" is the latest from Mrs. Peterson, the *Mars Hill, NC* native.
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!

This is what I want....I want a long term "clean" coach that makes athletes be students. If we get a failed p5 but great g5 or d2 coach on his way up. We will not have to worry about someone poaching him if he turns our program around.

I feel certain Seth Greenberg has turned down better opportunities and more money than we could offer. Like most former coaches, it takes a GREAT offer to leave the comfort of the ESPN booth to go back in the floor.
